Golden Guardians Eliminate Doublelift And Co. In LCS Playoffs

This series featured a back-and-forth battle between the third-seeded 100 Thieves and the sixth-seeded Golden Guardians as both teams attempted to extend their playoff. Golden Guardians had been on a downward spiral since their seven-game victory streak midway through the LCS 2023 Spring Split regular season. Since then, the Golden Guardians have gone 2-5 and have lost their grip on fourth place in the regular season rankings.

The 100 Thieves entered the tournament on a seven-game winning streak, with many expecting their end-of-season brilliance to carry them to the postseason. However, that did not carry over into the postseason, as they were defeated 3-0 by FlyQuest.

Both sides fought back and forth until the series came down to a final game five, where the tempo favored 100 Thieves initially. 100 Thieves dominated the early game versus Golden Guardians during the first 20 minutes. To many people’s astonishment, the Golden Guardians were able to begin their resurgence around both the baron and dragon pits. It started with their ability to rush down the baron before the team took the road to the dragon pit.

As Gori flanked 100 Thieves on K’sante, they surrounded 100 Thieves around the dragon pit. While 100 Thieves led in kills, Golden Guardians finally took the gold lead. Golden Guardians took advantage of their recently obtained tempo advantage, rushed top lane, and landed an ace on 100 Thieves. That was ultimately enough for Golden Guardians to put an end to the rockets, and 100 Thieves became the first team to be eliminated from the LCS 2023 Spring Split playoffs.

The LCS 2023 Spring Split of 100 Thieves has finally concluded. While it appeared that the squad would eventually rediscover their form after losing to FlyQuest in the first round of the playoffs, the club’s regular season did not convert to the playoffs. They will now look forward to the offseason as the squad prepares for the LCS 2023 Summer Split, hoping to improve on their previous success.

This is a significant victory for Golden Guardians in the LCS. Golden Guardians have officially surpassed their previous LCS split-best of 5th-6th place, moving them into the top four in the LCS 2023 Spring Split playoffs. They will now await and face Evil Geniuses in order to qualify for the LCS finals weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The series between the Golden Guardians and the Evil Geniuses will begin on Thursday, March 30, 2023. We’ll be covering all of the major leagues (LCS, LEC, LPL, LCK), while also checking out exciting games happening in the wildcard regions.
