IEM Cologne: Team Spirit Ends Team Liquid Run – Cloud9 Rolls Over Outsiders

Team Spirit 2 – 1 Team Liquid

Team Liquid arrived at the IEM Cologne using Mareks “YEKINDAR” Gaļinskis as their stand-in and while he performed excellently during important moments, it wasn’t enough to take down Team Spirit in the 1st round of the main stage. Team Spirit took down Team, making this their 3rd victory at the event so far, and unless they slow down, they might make it past their next encounter even if the CSGO odds don’t favor them.

Let’s not get it wrong, Team Spirit did win over Team Liquid, but it wasn’t an easy series at all for them. We had a series that went all the way to the third game, and the last map featured 42 rounds of back-and-forth action. In fact, at the very beginning, it was looking like the series was going to end up in a TL win because of how convincing they looked.

The North American squad kicked things off with intensity on Dust2, winning 11 rounds during the 1st half on CT. While Team Spirit was able to contain a bit of the aggressiveness coming their way by taking 4 rounds away, it wasn’t long until Team Liquid bounced back and closed the game with a 16-8 score. But the Russian squad wouldn’t give up easily and struck back in a decisive manner on Overpass, where they turned the series on its head and finished the encounter with a 16-9 score.

Now the series outcome would be decided on Ancient, a map where both teams had struggled in the past. The first half was in total control of Team Spirit on CT-side. The thing is that Team Liquid seemed to pick up 1 or 2 things about how TS executed their CT strats and managed to pull off an amazing comeback, finishing the 2nd half with a tie. The OT was a complete mess where we ended up having a 4th OT, but ultimately Team Spirit took the series home.

Cloud9 2 – 0 Outsiders

Cloud9 is such an interesting team when it comes to CSGO betting sites, mostly because you don’t know what kind of face they’ll show against good opponents. Sometimes they look great, but other times they look completely lost in their games. Fortunately for them, they kicked off things the right way at the IEM Cologne, beating Outsiders without breaking a sweat.

Dust2 was Outsiders’ pick for the first encounter of the series, but the way the game unfolded, it looked like Cloud9 were the ones that made the selection. From the very get-go, C9 looked very comfortable, especially on CT-side, where they didn’t allow Outsiders to win more than 3 rounds, finishing the first half on a 12-3 score. It didn’t take much long until C9 wrapped things up with a 16-6 score.

For map 2, things got a little bit more interesting on Ancient. While Cloud9 managed to pick up the first 2 rounds of the match, Outsiders had a clear idea on how to execute their CT strats, picking up 5 rounds and a row, and after a few hiccups, the first half ended in their favor with a 11-4 score.

But no one was expecting what happened next. Cloud9 evened out the score by winning 7 rounds in a row, and even though Outsiders picked up their 12th round, their efforts were in vain. C9 completely stomped them towards the end and won Ancient with a 16-12 score, making a comeback from a 7-round deficit.
