We’re already almost done with 2024, and it’s been an exciting year for Counter Strike 2, thanks to Team Spirit and the young player donk plus all the other veterans in the space performing well. However the youngster made a huge impact in his first major event, taking down every competitor and claiming the IEM Katowice 2024 trophy. On the other hand, veterans Natus Vincere made a surprising comeback by winning the first CS2 Major of the year and followed that up with a win at the Esports World Cup 2024. Meanwhile, IEM Katowice saw FaZe make it to their 6th consecutive CS2 event, winning the first 3. However, their performance has dropped massively since then, leaving fans curious about what’s next for FaZe Clan especially on the transfer market.

A few days after the full launch of Counter Strike 2, fans got to see the top Counter Strike players compete in the inaugural CS2 tournament, IEM Sydney 2023. There was already a lot of buzz about the event even before the new edition came out, so the fact that it was the first tournament made it incredibly exciting.
It was no surprise that there were some unexpected outcomes, especially on the technical side, however the games were incredible to watch. The top ranked team at the time, Vitality, surprisingly finished in last place after losing 2 nail biting matches to BetBoom and FaZe, who ultimately went on to win the tournament and take home the first CS2 trophy. The final was an intense showdown against Complexity, going all the way to 3 maps and even overtime. As we entered 2024, Katowice saw Team Spirit completely dominate the competition, establishing themselves as the team to watch this season. However, their hopes were quickly dashed in Copenhagen when NAVI started their reign of terror, even after S1mple’s departure, who was considered the greatest Counter Strike player of all time.
As the year wraps up, NAVI and G2 have been the main contenders, constantly challenging each other in the finals. The Ukrainian squad has been on top in ESL events, winning tournaments like EPL S20 and IEM Rio, while G2 has been ruling the BLAST circuit.
