KOI loses a champion while EXCEL gains one for 2023
After 2 incredible years with Rogue/KOI, Odoamne has at last cut ties with the organization to look for a new path in his League of Legends competitive career.
The Romanian native left Rogue going into the 2023 season. He is currently the only player to leave the Rogue/KOI lineup as the organization looks to revitalize the top lane with younger talent, after the iconic 2022 run where the squad took the 2022 LEC Summer split trophy and became the only Western team to punch their way into the Knockout stage of Worlds 2022.
While Odoamne leaving the squad is certainly surprising for most fans and viewers of the scene, it was rather expected with rumors around early November surfacing. According to a report from Blix Odoamne was in early talks with Excel for 2023.
Odoamne stated the following via social media:
“It was an incredible journey, all of the boys I played with will have a special place in my heart and I am very humbled to call all of them my teammates”
The veteran has been playing professionally since 2013 and is a LEC champion. He qualified for the LEC back in 2015 for the 1st time and debuted in Worlds that same season. As of right now he has been part of the World Championship 3 additional times: in 2016, 2021, and 2022.
Excel then later confirmed its roster for the 2023 League of Legends season, including a mix of well-known veterans and young talent.
The lineup will be Odoamne(top), Xerxe(jungle), Vetheo(mid), Patrik(bot), and Targamas(support).
Both Odoamne and Xerxe are veterans of the League of Legends competitive scene. The first has been competing professionally since 2013, while the latter has been on the Rift since 2016. The duo played together before in 2018 and will reunite going into 2023.
Targamas is also another LEC champion after taking a title with G2 Esports in the 2022 LEC Spring Split. This year wasn’t his first playing time with the Tier 1 competition in the region, as he was part of the 2018 EU LCS Spring Split with ex EU LCS organization Giants.
Vetheo is the player that will look to learn from the veterans and ultimately exploit his talent to the fullest. The youngster has been playing in the LEC since the 2021 Spring Split. During his playing stint in Misfits, he made a name for himself as one of the best mid-laners in the region, even though he has shown incredible potential, ultimately no path to the international stage has appeared for him.
The 4 others will join Patrik, another LEC experienced player, who has been with Excel’s squad since December 2019.
With a roster of such talent, Excel will look to move out from the middle of the pack and push for a possible international spot.
