KOI shakes hands with Rogue, creates alliance ahead of the 2023 LEC Spring Split
Esports organizations Rogue and KOI have decided to start a “strategic alliance” that will be starting immediately in 2023, allowing KOI to finally join the LEC as fans were hoping for a long time now. For the LEC 2023 Spring Split, Rogue will rebrand directly to KOI, but the current LEC management team will be in charge of running the main League of Legends division.
KOI co owner Ibai Llanos stated via social media:
“I couldn’t be more proud of KOI and what we’ve been able to achieve in such a short period of time” “This partnership with Rogue just accelerates our growth and broadens our opportunities to provide the most engaging and exciting experiences for our fans.”
Around early August, a lot of different reports surfaced around a possible alliance between the two organizations within Europe, and also mentioned that Rogue would look to keep its spot in the LEC while moving its European Regional League team from the Ultraliga to the incredibly talented LVP Superliga. But official details around any possible roster changes are still unknown.
On top of that, combining the massive social media reach of KOI’s branding along with Rogue’s ability to build and discover talent in regional League of Legends competitions, should be an incredible duo within the LEC space. Both teams have pretty big fan bases and should become even stronger now that they’ll be working under the same team and brand.
ReKT Global and Rogue vice president Anna Baumann stated via twitter:
“Having established Rogue as a world-leading talent factory with championship winning teams, we could not be more thrilled to be working with KOI” “With this alliance, we can up the game and serve our fans even more industry-leading entertaining content, all while continuing to build Ibai’s legacy in esports.”
KOI achieved 4th place in both the Spring and Summer 2022 LVP Superliga Splits, as seen within Liquipedia. For the massive following and financial backing the team had, most fans were expecting them to make a strong push for first place within their regional league. The roster used for the Superliga competition included former LEC players and experienced talent in tier 2 of the European League of Legends circuit. The lineup consisted of: Whiteknight (Top), Koldo (Jungle), Xico (Mid lane), Raffita (Bot lane), Seaz (Support), and Plasma/MyKey (substitutes).
While waiting for this new alliance to take effect in 2023, fans can watch Rogue in battle when their League of Legends team takes the stage at the 2022 World Championship on Friday, October 7th.
