LEC Best Matches to Watch, Previews & Odds – Week 4

Just like the LCS, the European league also had a 1-week break but now it’s finally back with very exciting matches. We are already heading into week 4 and there is a very close fight for 1st place right now. Excel, Fnatic, and Rogue are all sitting on a 5-2 record, tying them for 1st. But not very far behind them, G2, Mad Lions, and Team Vitality are occupying the other 3 playoffs spots with a 4-3 score.

Now, the lower part of the standings is a whole different situation. Astralis and Misfits are trailing G2, MAD, and VIT just by 1 game, but there is a clear difference of skill between these two groups of teams, with MSF being the only 7th place team that beat a top-6 team so far. At the very bottom we can see SK and BDS struggling to pick up wins quite a lot. SK has only won against BDS, and on the other hand, surprisingly, BDS took down G2 in week 2.

Both of the matches we’ll be talking about feature Team Vitality because they come off a 2-0 week and are going up against 2 top-3 teams this week. There might be some interesting lower-rated matches going on, but we should keep our eyes on the self-proclaimed Europe’s superteam. Be sure to stay tuned as we’ll also be sharing our esports picks of the week in the upcoming days.

Team Vitality (+147) vs Rogue (-192)

Let’s get it outta the way, Vitality doesn’t come in as favorites in either of their week 4 matches as you can tell by the lol odds. If we look at Rogue’s summer games, they have only lost to the other 2 top-3 teams, G2 and Fnatic. Even though Rogue ended up getting dominated by G2 in the spring split playoffs, they are looking like one of the most solid teams in the league right now.

Is there really something Vitality can do against Rogue in this match? Well, I do see a scenario where Vitality can end up scoring a win in their books. Rogue’s top triangle isn’t looking as dominant as we thought they would, yes, they are having huge impact during later stages of the game, but it’s not like they are simply rolling over their counterparts in lane. Rogue’s main objective this game is going to try to prevent giving any kind of early lead to VIT.

Rogue is relying on Larssen’s Corki and Azir picks to scale decently so he can take over the games. On the other hand, Perkz looks very comfortable playing champions like Yone, which is a common counter pick to Azir. While this game’s outcome is going to be basically decided during the draft, I think that Vitality might have a decent chance against Rogue. If you want to see an unproven Team Vitality go up against Rogue’s unbreakable early game, make sure to not miss this match on Friday July 15 at 4:00pm ET.

Team Vitality (+142) vs Fnatic (-192)

Facing Fnatic is a whole different beast compared to Rogue. Yes, Rogue might look like a more “solid” team, but Fnatic is one scary team to play against. They kill more, die less, and the most terryfing fact is that every game that Fnatic has been ahead in gold at 15 minutes, they win, and that’s something that Rogue can’t brag about. Also just by taking a look at Fnatic’s champion pool it’s easy to tell that they are much more aggressive. Upset is loving his Draven pick, and it’s incredibly hard to deal with Hylissang’s mage picks in the bot lane.

While some might think otherwise, I think that Vitality is actually going to struggle way more against Fnatic than against Rogue. Right now Fnatic is looking better and better every week, and we could say that they are a reflection of what Team Vitality aspires to be. Unless something incredibly unexpected ends up happening during the laning phase in mid or bot, I don’t see Vitality having a good chance in this game. You should catch this match if you want to see Team Vitality play against a much better version of themselves then catch this match on Saturday July 16 at 5:00pm ET.
