Los Ratones win EMEA Masters posing a difficult question for ERLs

  • Caedrel’s Los Ratones has made history by winning the EMEA Masters in their very first split.
  • They secured the championship with a decisive 3-0 positive outcome against Ici Japon from the LFL.
  • Just a few months after being formed, Marc “Caedrel” Lamont has led the team to triumph in the ERL’s premier competition, raising questions about their potential path to the LEC.

The victory at EMEA Masters is significant for several reasons. Streamer Baus has joined a rare group of players who have won the trophy in their debut competitive split. Nemesis and Crownie have both claimed the title for the 2nd time, having previously won together with MAD Lions before the organization arrived at the LEC. Bot laner turned support Rekkles has also celebrated his second EMEA Masters win, following his success with Karmine Corp, making him the first player to win the tournament in two different roles (bot laner and support). The League of Legends competitive scene is full of excitement and esports odds for you to take a look at!

Tough series but great reward

Despite the impressive scoreline, the 3-0 victory demanded resilience from the Los Ratones team, as each match tested their limits. The longest game in the series ended with only a 2k gold difference when LR took down IJC’s base, but they gained momentum to secure a more convincing win in the second match. The third game was again tightly contested, with Ici Japon dominating the early stages. However, Los Ratones managed to hold on and outscale their opponents, ultimately turning the tide in their favor for a historic win.

In addition to the records set on the Rift, the final between LR and IJC became the most viewed match in EMEA Masters history. Before Los Ratones’ performance, the highest peak viewership was during Karmine Corp’s 2021 victory over BT Excel, which marked the French organization’s first title and was a crucial step in their journey to the LEC.

Can they reach Tier 1?

Streamer/Founder Caedrel shared his desire to elevate the organization to Tier 1 competition during an interview right after the final result. He mentioned his hope for the organization to qualify for Worlds but acknowledged that he is currently uncertain about how to achieve that goal. One of the biggest challenges for LR lies in the league’s franchise model. All existing rosters have either invested in the league through partnerships with Riot, each costing millions of Euros, or have spent millions to acquire the spots of dying organizations. If Los Ratones wants to take over a slot, Caedrel will need to secure substantial funding.

A more viable option for him might be to collaborate with an established organization, leveraging his strong brand while benefiting from the infrastructure/funding of another lineup. This is permitted, as seen recently with streamer Ibai’s roster, KOI.
