Mongolia has not exactly been synonymous with esports since the environment started to boom around the world. However the country itself has a massive gaming interest, especially with Valve titles. The MongolZ believed in their home grown talent when creating their Counter Strike roster a couple of years back, putting trust that the correct group of players would make the organization great.
Thankfully positive results have recently started to happen, with their 2025 roster consistently pushing for titles or top 4 placements in Majors. They stand #5 in the world per most rankings, showing that with the correct development process, even a small country can produce a great lineup. Nevertheless, this is a huge gamble for an organization which might not have enough funds for top tier talent on both Counter Strike 2 and Dota 2. Ultimately, they have the template to bring the best out of Mongolian players, we will just have to wait and see if positive results repeat over here.
Brand new roster with high expectations
Two prominent Dota 2 players are at the forefront of the MongolZ team: Ace12 and FortuneSoul. They have primarily played in the SEA region throughout their careers, achieving impressively high elo ratings. What makes this Dota 2 roster particularly significant for MongolZ is that it consists entirely of Mongolian players. When MongolZ made their debut in Dota 2 Esports last November, they only had one Mongolian player on the team. This was a clear departure from their previous projects.
Dota 2 is not the most famous Valve title in Mongolia. Therefore, assembling a roster from scratch entirely from Mongolian blood was a massive scouting task. Right now is a critical time for all organizations since the TI14 regional qualifiers are just around the corner. On top of that, the SEA qualifiers has tough opposition such as Talon Esports and BOOM Esports. This is the moment for MongolZ to showcase their abilities, not just as individual players, but as the only representatives of their country.
