The second quarter final on the opening day featured the Brazilian teams PaiN Gaming and FURIA. This match was significant beyond just the outcome, as some players from PaiN had been trained by FURIA’s captain, FalleN.
Snow played a crucial role in game 1, stopping FURIA’s offensive momentum in the second half. Even though the halftime score was 8-4, PaiN had set up a solid defense. They managed to narrow the score with a win in the second pistol round, with Snow again being key in further closing the gap. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough; FURIA’s relentless aggression paid off, finishing PaiN’s choice of Nuke with a 13-6 victory.
After losing their own map choice, PaiN started strong on Anubis. All hope was not lost for PaiN, as they fought back with several rounds, ending the first half with a 7-5 score in favor of FURIA. However, things quickly got out of hand, and PaiN took Anubis without much difficulty.
The third map was truly exciting, as PaiN successfully defended against FURIA’s offense with a perfect first overtime half, putting them on the brink of victory. Despite FURIA’s best attempts, PaiN won Inferno 16-12, securing a 2-1 series win.
