Movistar Riders, Forsaken, And 9INE Qualify For BLAST Fall Showdown
Movistar Riders Takes Down FTW 2-0
With their 2-0 sweep over FTW, including wins on Inferno (16-12) and Anubis (16-4), Movistar Riders have qualified for the BLAST Fall Showdown Europe.
The Spaniards won easily and never looked like they may lose the series. Antonio “Martinez” Martinez and Adam “adamS” both had impressive performances. Marian was successful on Inferno, and then Movistar Riders dominated on Anubis.
The win sends the Movistar Riders to the BLAST Fall Showdown. While G2 and ENCE are heavy favorites to win, they will have to contend with other teams like Cloud9 and MOUZ if they advance from their individual qualifiers.
Movistar Riders’ recent performance at ESL Pro League surprised many. The team’s online record leading up to the tournament had been disappointing. The future looks bright for this revamped Riders squad after they not only made the EPL playoffs but also qualified for the BLAST Fall Showdown.
The odds were stacked against FTW going into the qualification series, what with their position outside the world’s top 100 and their recent focus on participating in regional championships. The team’s early success in this qualifying by taking a map from Movistar Riders was encouraging, but they were unable to duplicate the feat in the series.
Stanislaw Is Back In Action
Forsaken won the Ace North American Masters Fall 2023 tournament by beating Party Astronauts 2-0. This earned them a spot in the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown Americas.
Group B was dominated by the squad captained by Peter “stanislaw” Jarguz, who began off the qualifiers with wins against Bad News Bears and Wildcard. After beating Nouns in a three-map series, Forsaken met Josh “PwnAlone” Pigue and company in the grand finals.
Throughout the competition, wiz did admirably, with his lowest grade of 1.25 coming against Nouns in the first round of eliminations. The American AWPer finished the event with the highest rating of any player in the tournament, a 1.26 rating over seven maps.
From October 4-8, eight teams will compete in the Showdown for a $20,000 grand prize and a berth in the BLAST Premier Fall Finals. Thanks to their triumph at the 5E Arena Asia Cup Fall 2023, Forsaken will face off against teams from the Americas like Liquid, FURIA, and TheMongolz.
9INE Sweeps Into The Breach
9INE defeated Into the Breach by a score of 2-0, ensuring their participation in the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown Europe. The Polish team qualified for the second season of BLAST’s qualification bracket after competing in the spring tournament.
The Piotr “nawrot” Nawrocki-coached lineup cruised through the group phase with a victory over GenOne before sweeping Looking4Org’s Frenchmen in the first playoffs round, claiming their spot in the final.
This qualifier was Into the Breach’s first outing with their new lineup featuring Alexey “Qikert” Golubev as the in-game leader. After losing to GenOne early on, the European mix beat Endpoint and Sprout to go to the championship match.
In the online competition, fnatic were the biggest shock. They were the top seed going into the tournament, however they lost to Sprout and ALTERNATE aTTaX by scores of 14-16, putting them in last place in Group A. Endpoint also failed to progress, partially due to a scheduling conflict on Saturday that led them to forfeit their match against 9INE.
In the online tournament, 9INE will face off against teams like G2, ENCE, and BIG in an effort to advance to the $425,000 BLAST Fall Final.
