2023 CS GO
A couple of games into the spring 2023 CS GO season, Ninjas in Pyjamas had to sadly make an unexpected change, as the organization had to change once more one of their key pieces due to health issues.
NiP announced the signing of Danish native Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke via social media to what was described as a “long term” deal, the player being replaced is rifle main Hampus “hampus” Poser, who is taking a resting period throughout the entire CS GO spring season with the full support of the organization. It is important to note that Ninjas in Pyjamas did several consultations on the matter, as the performance director researched the situation thoroughly with medical professionals.
In the roster update posted in social media, NiP stated they looked for a “long-term solution” that could be a good fit for the 4 players already in place, this resulted in the signing of k0nfig, who will debut for Ninjas in Pyjamas at the IEM Katowice play-in stage. The tournament is set to start on February 1st.
NiP via social media post:
“Stability is an important factor in building a winning team, and as soon as this situation came to light we set out to find a long-term solution that allows Hampus to take this time without impacting the momentum we’re building into 2023.”
This transfer to NiP is the latest step for a player such as k0nfig who has definitely had a chaotic last couple of years. Back in 2021, he was forced into a hiatus due to a hand injury which ultimately ended with him cutting ties with Complexity and joining Astralis. However in 2022, he was removed from Astralis after a strange occurrence, a “fistfight in Malta”, which resulted in another injury and somehow an “aggressive incident” toward a talent member of the IEM Cologne staff.
He had a small substitute showing with Heroic at the end of 2022 in the BLAST World Final. Later a stand in performance for FaZe at the ongoing BLAST Spring Groups, but later was not allowed by BLAST to compete under their brand as he was registered to another team in the same event.
Ninjas in Pyjamas COO Jonas Gunderson said the signing of k0nfig is barely a “silver lining” to the situation NiP is facing with Hampus’ possible injury.
NiP is no stranger to this kind of unfortunate situation. Back in 2021, after they signed superstar AWP main Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz on a blockbuster transfer, he sadly went on an extended medical leave throughout his entire playing stint in NiP, which covered the 2022 season.
