  • NRG are out of the VCT Americas Stage 2 Playoffs.
  • The team will now be looking for a new head coach to fill the void.
  • There are rumors that former head coach Chet will be making a surprising switch to Counter-Strike 2.

Following the conclusion of VCT 2024 Americas Stage 2, NRG, one of the best teams in the American region and one of 11 partner teams, has ceased its professional participation in the Valorant scene for the next six months. Two squad players, Victor “Victor” Wong, a prominent roster player, and head coach Chet “Chet” Singh, were let go due to their performance. The decision was made public by the club on its official social media accounts. The management of the team wished the outgoing members luck in their future pursuits and thanked them for their lengthy tenure and important contributions to the team. Chet continued by asserting that the players did not want him to be let go from the team and that NRG management alone had the authority to decide whether or not to dismiss him.

Not the performance they expected

On the 2024 Valorant Champions Tour (VCT), NRG has disappointedly performed poorly. The team had a thrilling start to the season, winning their group at the VCT Americas Kick-off. However, after placing fifth and last in Group Alpha of the VCT 2024 Americas Stage 1, they were unable to advance to the playoffs. Disappointed with these outcomes, the team made the decision to try a course correction for Stage 2 by bringing back veteran In-Game Leader Pujan “FNS” Mehta and former controller player Sam “s0m” Oh. But in doing so, they had to let go of Marved and assign newly acquired star duelist Demon1, who was expected to lead NRG to new heights, to the replacement role.

Sadly, NRG did not get the intended result from these actions. With just one victory in four games, the squad concluded Stage 2 and placed fourth in Group Alpha, just behind Cloud9. Moreover, this performance indicates that they have once again missed out on making the playoffs. The team showed moments of brilliance in spite of these losses, giving hope for what they may accomplish with the correct modifications and maybe more time. In addition, the team never shied away from taking action when they felt it was necessary and still seemed eager to return to the international scene.

Demon1 back on the starting lineup

In 2023, Demon1, a breakout rookie, swept the nation off its feet by lifting the first-ever Champions trophy in North America in front of a home crowd. Before Evil Geniuses signed him, he was in Tier 3 for a while and participated in two major final appearances. He would sign with NRG prior to the 2024 season after 2023’s Champions. This action by NRG is indicative of a larger pattern in the esports sector, where businesses adapt quickly to shift in order to succeed. Teams must continually change and adapt due to Valorant’s competitive character and the huge stakes of the VCT circuit.

Moreover, NRG’s supporters will be keenly observing the team during this period of transition, expecting any adjustments to result in a return to form. Though Victor and Chet’s exit signals the end of one chapter, it also creates fresh opportunities and the possibility of a resurgence in the cutthroat Valorant environment.
