Puppey comes back to NAVI

  • Puppey is set to join NAVI’s dota roster after 10 years.
  • He has been with Team Secret ever since he first left NAVI.

In preparation for DreamLeague Season 24 and other forthcoming competitions, NAVI has formally revealed their updated Dota 2 lineup. The roster includes both current players and short-term stand-ins, such as Clement “Puppey” Ivanov, the TI1 champion and previous legendary captain of NAVI. More than 10 years have passed

For the first time in more than ten years, Puppey is back on the Natus Vincere roster, although as a stand-in. It feels like 2011. A post on NAVI’s official website states that Puppey will rejoin the squad during the DreamLeague Season 24 qualifiers. Puppey completes a squad that features some well-known players and coaches, such as Artem “Yuragi” Golubiev, the Kyrgyz prodigy Baqyt “Zayac” Emiljanov, and ex Team Secret offlaner czMiroslav “BOOM” Bičan (who also serves as a stand-in).

Malady will be replaced by Puppey, who guided NAVI to 3 TI finals. For NAVI supporters, Puppey’s comeback is particularly meaningful because he left the group ten years ago to join Team Secret, who went on to win a lot of Dota 2. Secret advanced to the The International 2022 finals and won numerous majors. But Secret faltered once midlaner talent Nisha left, and they lost early in this year’s TI qualifications.

Puppey is now back at NAVI

With this action, Team Secret has virtually confirmed that they will not be competing in the next DreamLeague tournament. They may also decide to skip further tournaments, unless they intend to play without their founder and captain, Puppey. Puppey, now a stand-in, rejoins the team he played for when they won The International in its inaugural year, 2011. Up until 2014, Puppey was a member of NAVI. After that, he left to join Team Secret. Ever since, he has been an essential member of that team. But even though Team Secret has occasionally been among the best teams in Dota 2, Puppey hasn’t quite been able to win a second TI championship and return to the top of the game. This unexpected substitution may be a sign that the popular Dota player is thinking about alternative options.

NAVI, like many other squads, is presently working feverishly to assemble a team for the plethora of qualifiers and tournaments that are scheduled to occur over the course of the upcoming weeks and months. Teams are assembling squads with stand-ins, last-minute acquisitions, and hasty deals as three key tournaments and qualifiers, the DreamLeague S24, BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024, and PGL Wallachia S2, are scheduled to take place in only three weeks.
