Liquid and The MongolZ Cruise to 3-0
The MongolZ astonished everyone by finishing the Opening Stage undefeated at 3-0. This definitely was not in our predictions and marks a big upset as no one was expecting them to look so great. Their domination was staggering, across four maps, they dropped just 15 rounds. Back in the CS:GO era, that wouldn’t even be enough to lose a single game.

Team Liquid’s journey to 3-0 was more of a grind, facing close calls against Cloud9, Wildcard, and FlyQuest, however, their individual quality came through when it mattered most. While The MongolZ’s performance was unexpected, Liquid’s record met the high expectations set for them, making their qualification less surprising but still impressive.
FURIA, paiN, and GamerLegion Secure Early Spots
In the 3-1 bracket, FURIA, paiN Gaming, and GamerLegion avoided any last-day drama. FURIA’s run has been inconsistent, but they did enough to dodge disaster. Meanwhile, paiN Gaming and GamerLegion improved with each match, showcasing growth throughout the tournament. GamerLegion, in particular, demonstrated that they are more than just a young team with potential, they are genuine contenders.
Unfortunately, it was a dark day for Fnatic, who crashed out in last place for the first time in their history. Their performance was simply sad, they looked bad and fans and experts alike must feel disappointed at this point. Their loss to hometown favorites Rare Atom was especially painful, signaling the need for serious changes if they hope to remain competitive in CS2 heading into 2025.
