The disciplinary action was given by Riot Games on October 3rd, ruling a monetary penalty of $15,000 USD to be taken from the Korean’s salary. On top of that, the League of Legends creators have imposed an “educational training course on professionalism” which EMENES will have to complete before the start of the 2024 season.

After conducting a thorough investigation, Riot Games has concluded that EMENES was found in violation of Section 14.3.3 regarding behavior and conduct. The investigation later revealed that EMENES made comments directed towards European League streamer Spear_shot that were ultimately deemed as “offensive and derogatory”. It is important to note that streamer Spear_shot did not make any provocations towards EMENES in any way during the game.

Within a League of Legends Solo Queue match on September 15th, EMENES expressed his frustration towards Spear_shot, saying things such as “disgusting EU streamer” and suggesting that he should return to his country. He maintained his feelings towards Spear_shot and other similar streamers who visited Korea at the same period of time, stating that it severely impacted the region’s ranked game experience.

During its research process, Riot Games also uncovered several other accounts of “behavioral misconduct” made from EMENES’ League of Legends account, which also aggravated the established standards expected from a professional player during gameplay. Additionally, Riot Games went as far as examining the Cloud 9 mid laner’s social media activity in order to gather further context and insight on the situation. Throughout the disciplinary period, EMENES also provided a statement within a social media post, which Riot Games considered besides his public apology, in order to determine an official verdict on the entire situation.

Although this is technically the first time EMENES’ behavior is recognized by Riot Games, the Korean mid laner has participated in similar behavior spanning multiple seasons and within different regions. Thus it has been communicated to the professional player that any subsequent infractions will lead to more harsh consequences. EMENES will have to take this situation within his lol tips if he wants to avoid any future punishments, especially as Cloud 9’s starting mid laner going into Worlds 2023.
