Lu Yao aka Somnus within the Dota 2 community, one of the best mid laners in the world currently and part of team Royal Never Give Up as their position 2 has been hospitalized after testing positive for COVID 19. This comes after two PCR tests that showed possible issues with Somnus. RNG later released a statement regarding the entire situation within social media.
With the recent COVID related incidents for RNG at the 2022 League of Legends World Championship not having as much impact within results, the whole scenario seems to be tougher for its Dota 2 division. It got to the point that RNG had to forfeit game 2 in the series against PSG.LGD. This was a highlight series amongst the entire event, especially since a lot of the current RNG players used to play under the PSG.LGD brand back in 2018.
Lately, the situation seemed to be a bit more stable, with Somnus feeling better and confirming that he will be playing from the isolation room. This was seen at the time as the best outcome for RNG because they did not register a 6th player as a possible substitute. Many viewers thought that RNG’s coach Xie Junhao, better known as Super, would need to sub in due to his previous stint as a midlaner in with teams such as Vici Gaming and LGD.
After what many thought were positive news, RNG kept going in their group stage games, looking to play against Hokori and Evil Geniuses. Their performance at that point in the group stage has been incredible with a 9-3 scoreline in their respective group.
Everything was looking fantastic until recently. After a 0-2 loss against Hokori, a second COVID test was in place for all players of RNG. As per information taken from RNG’s Weibo account, it seems like Ghost (Chen Guokang), Chalice (Yang Shen Yi), Kaka (Hu Liangzhi), flyby (Su Lei), Stms (Lu Hao), and their team captain Junyu have all been confirmed as COVID positive after the second test done by the tournament organizers.
After this, all the RNG players with the exception of xNova will continue playing from the isolation room. RNG front office has stated they are working with the TI organizers to make sure that all of the COVID prevention protocols are done correctly by the team, especially after what happened recently with PSG.LGD who failed to comply with said rules 2 days ago.
After this chaotic first couple of days, it seems like things have settled down for RNG as of right now. As we hope this incredible roster and players feel well and continue to provide amazon plays within the live server.
