Jared “zombs” Gitlin is one of the most popular VALORANT players in the scene, but his future has been a mystery since April when Sentinels decided to bench him during the competitive season and brought in Eric “Kanpeki” Xu.
Sentinels then revamped the roster with the additions of Sacy and pANcada after making it through the new franchising program and zombs tried to put a new team together, but it didn’t take him long to realize competition is no longer for him.
“I was scrimming for like a week,” zombs said. “The team I was making had some potential and we had some potential organizations interested. But then I went to Los Angeles, I talked to the SEN owner, and now I never want to leave SEN. I am staying on SEN forever. I have been on SEN since the beginning, since they had like zero followers. I am not going to compete again. It’s not worth it for me anymore. I have opportunities that are better for the future, that are better in every aspect than competing.”
Zombs became tired of competitive play after he realized it’s “impossible” to make a team with every player having the same goals. Every lineup has way too many problems and it really isn’t worth spending years grinding a game, according to him. The 24-year-old has been a part of the Sentinels organization since 2019, when he still was an Apex Legends pro. He then transitioned to VALORANT in 2020 and joined the first lineup Sentinels assembled back in April 2020.
We can’t forget that Sentinels rolled over the North American scene in 2020 and managed to carry that momentum into May 2021, when they became the first champions of an international VALORANT tournament at VCT Masters Two Reykjavík. Even though it’s not official yet, it’s very possible that zombs will be a part of Sentinels’ team of VALORANT content creators, next to tarik, aceu, and sinatraa.
On other news, the skilled in-game leader Alexander “Zander” Dituri has parted ways with the Version1 VALORANT team. Zander, who spent just one year under the Version1 wings, posted a contract GIF to his Twitter account, making a hint at his next move. The Canadian professional player is now set to join a new organization initiated by the former XSET co-founder Marco Mereu.
Zander is reportedly forming a team alongside former Ghost Gaming players Mohamed “johnqt” Amine Ouarid, Gianfranco “koalanoob” Potestio, and Marc-Andre “NiSMO” Tayar. Former NRG player Daniel “eeiu” Vucenovic will be filling up the roster. The team will be looking to compete in the VCT 2023 Challengers circuit, which is the qualification process for Ascension, a brand new tournament that will grant one team from each competitive region a spot in their respective international league the following year.
For example, if Zander’s team ends up winning the Challengers split in NA, they will get to play against the best teams from the Latin American and Brazilian splits in Ascension. Upon winning this tournament, they would earn the qualification for the Americas international league next year. They would remain participants in the league for a maximum of two years before getting demoted.
