Made in Thailand (MiTH) emerged as the standout team in Group A, securing their berth with a combination of ability and persistence. They defeated TALON 2-1 in their first match, then astonished Sentinels with a 2-1 victory that included an unbelievable overtime comeback on the crucial third map. MiTH’s tale is particularly encouraging because they entered the contest with minimal fanfare and quickly established themselves as a formidable competitor. MiTH enters the playoffs as a dark horse, boosted by strong performances from Killua and cgrs, and their current form implies they could be a giant-killer.
Gen.G’s journey was characterized by determination. Following an initial loss to Sentinels, they collected themselves, overcame TALON, and avenged their earlier defeat with a 2-0 win in the rematch. Gen.G secured the second seed thanks to t3xture’s exceptional performance, and they will compete against their regional opponents in the semifinals. T3xture’s impressive 47 kills in the crucial match highlighted his mechanical prowess and confirmed his place as one of the top players in the tournament. Gen.G’s combination of newcomers and experienced players has given them an advantage, especially in difficult moments.
Group B: DRX Dominates; NRG Fights Back
DRX showcased their dominance at home, overcoming Bilibili Gaming in a tight three-map contest before swiftly taking down Rapid Lofi. Flashback’s consistent eliminations of Cypher were critical in propelling DRX to the top of Group B with a strong lead. Despite roster changes during the summer, DRX has maintained its position as one of Asia’s top teams, with Flashback playing an important role. Their strategic methods and individual brilliance make them strong title challengers.
NRG had a more difficult journey to the playoffs. Following an early upset loss to Rapid Lofi, they rebounded to overcome Bilibili Gaming in a tough three-map struggle before crushing Rapid Lofi in the rematch. Verno emerged as NRG’s standout, scoring a server high 38 kills on the last map to propel his side to the playoffs. NRG’s ability to recover from adversity demonstrates their mental toughness, and with their key players blazing on all cylinders, they’ll be eager to bring their best game in the semifinals.
