The legendary 26-year-old mid laner and also part-owner will keep his legacy going with T1 for three more years as he looks toward the bright future of the organization. For years, T1 and Faker have been synonymous for a long time now, while also managing to be the standard of excellence for many League of Legends players, coaches and owners around the world.
The “unkillable demon king” was a lethal weapon when it came to his champion pool, whether T1 needed an assassin to dive the backline like Akali, a scaling mage to control the pace of the game like Orianna, or a champion designed to play as an enabler like Galio. He was more than willing to sacrifice his own lane to put his team in a good position, scoring one of lowest average share percentage of his team’s gold at the last Worlds.
In this year’s world championship, Faker was just a single game away from picking up his fourth Summoner’s Cup after they blasted through the competition at Worlds. Even though he had the youngest teammates at the tournament, the very-experienced captain led his team to incredible heights throughout the event as they took on some of the strongest teams across the globe like Royal Never Give Up, JD Gaming and Edward Gaming.
Faker performed a lot of impressive stunts during the 2022 season. From going undefeated through Spring Split, to reaching back-to-back LCK finals and just missing out on making history at Worlds. Now it’s safe to say that Faker has become rejuvenated in his quest to win another world championship.

Now looking at T1’s coaching staff, former professional player and top laner Kim “Roach” Kang-hee has joined once again the organization and will become one of the coaches working head coach Bae “Bengi” Seong-woong for the next season. Together with him, Kim “Sky” Ha-neul and Im “Tom” Jae-hyeon will form the new coaching staff for the upcoming 2023 LCK Spring and Summer split.
Roach used to play for the organization as the top laner back in 2020 when he was sharing the starting spot with Kim “Canna” Chang-dong, who just joined DWG KIA, replacing Nuguri. After that, Roach was relegated to the substitute position before getting dropped to the T1 Challengers team and retiring by the end of 2021.
However, Roach remained on the roster as a coach, acquiring a fifth and third-place finish during the Spring and Summer Splits of 2022 respectively. He is now being promoted back to the main team. Meanwhile, Sky has already been a part of the coaching staff since September. The Korean coach was promoted directly from T1 Rookies, which is T1’s academy team, and has collaborated with Bengi for Worlds 2022.
Similarly to Roach and Sky, Tom has also had a history with T1 back in 2015 as a player. That being said, he did become a coach much earlier than others, having started in the Chinese region with Newbee Young. In the 2022 season, he worked as an assistant coach for PSG Talon, and now he will be making his return to T1 seven years later. With the newly formed coaching staff, the T1 team is looking to go big in the 2023 season and is definitely hoping to win its fourth World Championship.
