Team Liquid sweeps Team Tundra to start their 2023 DPC run

Team Liquid Sweeps Team Tundra

The first week of the Western European Dota Pro Circuit has already finished. The state of the current table after week 1 seems to be as expected for some analysts, as Team Liquid managed to sweep Team Tundra while Team Secret finished their campaign without a single win to their names.

After starting the season with a strong performance Tundra lost a map against Nigma Galaxy. The International 2022 champions still managed to close out the series, but their good run in form was broken by Team Liquid, who finished 3rd place in TI11.

The first game of the series between Team Liquid and Team Tundra showcased a couple of signature heroes such as Chaos Knight for Skiter and Tusk piloted by Nine, however, Team Liquid was more than ready to play around the heavy physical damage type of composition from Tundra.

As the game continued into the later stages, Team Liquid simply macroed Team Tundra around the map which allowed them to have the advantage when starting a team fight. The level of coordination and execution between Zai’s Dark Seer, Insania’s Treant Protector, and the company were too much for Team Tundra to sustain as the TI11 reigning champions showed a “GG” in chat at the 44-minute game mark.

Going into the second game of the series, Team Liquid imitated a special pick out of Tundra’s draft strategies and picked Tusk for Nisha. Team Liquid started winning every single lane and matchup, as their lead continued to grow larger and larger, to the point where Tundra’s team fight-focused draft was not able to find the initiation necessary to pull off a comeback.

Looking at one of the early game skirmishes, Nisha’s Tusk threw himself out of a Chronosphere after his Phase Boots boost ran out, just showing even fate or luck was not on Team Tundra’s side this time around.

It is important to keep in mind that as soon as TI11 concluded back in 2022, a couple of analysts and professional players stated the possibility of Team Liquid having an easier time versus Tundra this time around, compared to their previous clash internationally. At the time, Team Liquid was eliminated by Team Secret in an extremely narrow series, and the new season started with Team Liquid showing more confidence in and out of the game.

Only time will tell if Team Liquid will be able to continue this sort of momentum going against “harder” or more synergized opposition that could punish their small mistakes. As for Team Tundra, they will need to reposition and replan their entire strategy as it seemed convoluted and outdated by meta standards.
