This series commenced with both teams exchanging punches rather aggressively. The MongolZ claimed the first map, but Heroic quickly retaliated. The third map of the fixture (Anubis) was highly volatile and could have favored either side, yet The MongolZ narrowly triumphed with a score of 13-11. In many instances, when a best of five third map concludes with such a close line, the victorious team often dominates the remainder of the series. This was the case here, as Heroic struggled to maintain their momentum from map 2, allowing The MongolZ to decisively win Mirage 13-2 and secure their championship in the Thunderpick WC 2024 CS2 event.
One of the most significant advantages of the Mongolian squad is the impressive fragging performance of their in-game leader, bLitz. This was clearly evident during the series, as he concluded the finals with a total of 68 kills, tying for the highest in the server with Senzu. In contrast, Heroic’s IGL (kyxsan) recorded only 40 kills over the course of 4 maps. It is fair to say no one expects your in-game leader to be the one topping the fragging charts, as they have other responsibilities to take care of. However everything just clicked for bLitz to perform incredibly well this time around.
A step forward for the APAC scene
Underground fight club-like experience at LVL Arena was incredible—it felt like something out of a movie.

It is not a secret the APAC region has not really performed well in the international Counter Strike 2 scene, with the 2 most notable squads being Tyloo and MongolZ. However in recent months, especially since July, the MongolZ have been performing above expectations. Ultimately grabbing this title means more to the region than what most viewers see at first glance. Esports wise, players and sponsors tend to invest in APAC squads involved with Dota 2, League of Legends, and Mobile Gaming. However this sort of results brings eyes to the organization almost immediately, especially with the 2024 closing rather soon.
Now it’s time for the MongolZ and other APAC CS2 squads to do some intelligent business in order to grow their regional tournaments and perform better at the international level. Ultimately, this year has been another triumph for the Thunderpick World Championship. We have witnessed outstanding Counter Strike gameplay from exceptional teams, and The MongolZ have rightfully claimed victory as they solidify their position among the elite CS2 teams.
