The potential dark horses of the LCS – CLG and Team Dignitas

2023 Spring Split.

After an underwhelming performance from all parts at the 2022 League of Legends World Championship, controversy due to schedule and streaming time, and a preseason victory for the youngster class, the LCS is set to start off on January 26th. Nevertheless, both teams and the scene have changed dramatically going into the 2023 Spring Split.

A lot of familiar faces have come back, as they decided retirement was not really in the cards for this season. New youngsters, imports, and experienced veterans are more than ready to push themselves once more for the coveted LCS title. However, what is most surprising is how the roster shuffle has affected the squads themselves.

With only a couple of days left before the season kicks off, organizations that were underperforming have managed to completely revamp their lineups and might become good enough to upset teams in the higher standings.

Today we are going to take a look at 2 teams that are good enough to take wins of better-known opposition, and secure themselves a playoff spot this season.

CLG has struggled to stay competitive within the tournament, mainly after the LCS was modernized and sponsors came in to bolster other organizations with imports. Top teams were able to rapidly overcome a CLG team that used to be an organization known for being a constant contender for the LCS title back in the day.

In 2022 they were not able to secure a “superstar” player, thus the team decided to be the organization that focused on building from within the native player base and supporting a promising handful of youngsters, thankfully it did pay off back in the Summer Split of 2022.

CLG made the playoffs for the first time in 3 years and ultimately decided to keep the same exact roster going forward. Players such as Luger and Poome will be looking to pay back the organization that trusted them, while also learning from more experienced underrated talents in Contractz, Dhokla, and Palafox.

As for our second team, Dignitas will be a team filled to the brim with veterans from the LCS scene. Santorini and Jensen are just 2 of the most experienced players in the league, and on top of that, should have previous synergy from their playing stint in Team Liquid. They have both won titles and are well-known as leaders within their respective teams.

Armut and Spawn will be making their LCS debuts as well, with the former coming off an incredibly shaky season with MAD Lions from the LEC, and the latter being the only member considered a rookie within the team.
