Throughout the history of competitive League of Legends, some of the very best mid laners the world has ever seen are from Korea and became renowned after reaching the international stage time and time again. There has been a huge variety in what Korean mid laners have to offer, from older players like Rookie and Faker to the more recent ones like Zeka and Chovy, giving us something to talk about every season.
The LCK consistently delivers exciting mid lane matchups, and the upcoming 2023 season won’t be the exception. While some of the faces we’ll see are well-known, some teams ventured into the unknown with some new players, which makes the league more exciting. So without further ado, let’s get started!
Chovy – Gen.G
Even though he didn’t have a spectacular performance throughout the duration of the 2022 World Championship, it’s hard to deny the potential of Chovy. The 2022 season was a great moment for his career, as he undoubtedly demonstrated his ability in mid lane, becoming one of the absolute best in the league.
Not only does he shines when it comes to CSing perfectly, Chovy also is mechanically gifted, and it really shows during teamfights. He has one of the largest champion pools out of all the mid laners, which makes him a great fit for Gen.G. That said, if he wants to consolidate as one of the greatest in the world, he still needs to perform up to the expectations on the international stage
Zeka – Hanwha Life Esports

From being considered one of the most inconsistent players in the 2022 Spring split, to becoming a World Champion, all in the same year. It’s incredible the evolution that Zeka had throughout the entire year. There is a reason why he was granted the 2022 LCK Player of the year award. He managed to take down some of the mightiest mid laners at Worlds back-to-back-to-back (Scout, Chovy, and Faker).
There is only one thing remaining in Zeka’s check-list, to prove that he is not a one-hit wonder. The 2023 season will represent a big challenge for this mid laner as he needs to put all his efforts in replicating some of his best performances of last year. If he manages to do that, then it’s safe to say that we are witnessing one of the best League of Legends players we’ve ever seen in the making.
ShowMaker – DWG KIA
I’ll be completely honest, I had my concerns after seeing ShowMaker play during the Summer split regular season. His laning phase was basically non-existent, while also having no impact on Damwon’s side lanes. Canyon was the only one keeping the team alive, but fortunately, ShowMaker was able to turn things around in the later stages of the split.
Accompanied by Canyon, this duo is probably the absolute best mid/jungle duo we’ve ever seen in the history of competitive League of Legends. On an average day, ShowMaker exerts an uncontrollable amount of pressure on the enemy mid laner, basically taking him out of the game, and on a good day, he might as well force you to [email protected]
Faker – T1

I know, I know, it was too easy to predict that Faker was going to be in this list. It’s hard to not consider him one of the greatest mid laners in the league, when, well, he is one of the best players in the entire history. Three World Championships titles, two MSI titles, 10 LCK titles, several MVP awards, over 500 LCK wins, and the list just goes on, so yeah, there are plenty of reasons to consider him the League of Legends GOAT.
Sure, he didn’t have a great time at Worlds last year, especially against Zeka, but it would be unfair to discard him just because of that. Faker is greater than just a best-of-5 series. He recently extended his contract with T1 up to November 2025, which means that we still have plenty of Lee Sang-hyeok left, and we can be sure that he’ll be playing good League of Legends all the way through.
