VCT Pacific Kickoff now in playoffs

Four teams from VCT Pacific KICKOFF made it to the single-elimination bracket after moving on from the group stage and play-in rounds. After making it this far, Paper Rex, T1, DRX, and Gen.G will compete for 2 spots at VALORANT Masters Madrid. The top four clubs at VCT Pacific KICKOFF are following the same format as the championship rankings from the first league of the previous season, which concluded in May of last year. This demonstrates how these teams have persevered in the face of numerous setbacks, particularly in the case of Gen.G, where Kim “Meteor” Tae-o is the only member of the original eight-player lineup still in place. Paper Rex defeated Gen. G 2-1 in their Group C opener (Breeze 10-13, Lotus 13-10, Sunset 13-7) to become the first team to punch their playoff ticket. Unlike the other two groups, which were made up of 4 teams each, Paper Rex was grouped with just 3 teams and had the benefit of just needing to win one bo3 series to guarantee a berth in the top 4. They were the defending winners from the previous season. T1 defeated ZETA DIVISION 2-1 in the Group A winners’ match to guarantee their spot in the playoffs (Ascent 11-13, Lotus 13-4, Sunset 13-7). On the opposing side in Group C, DRX and Talon Esports faced battle for the 3rd playoff position. With ease, the Korean superpower sealed the deal, winning the series in just 2 maps (Split 13-10, Ascent 13-8).

Three really intense matches were played by Gen.G Esports. The team defeated Rex Regum Qeon, the obvious underdogs, 2-1 in the first round. However, they were defeated 1-2 by Paper Rex, the front-runners and world championship finalists. The squad met Rex Regum Qeon once more in the pivotal game, and this time, albeit not without a fight, they prevailed 2-1. In the thrilling encounter that went right down to the wire, Gen.G pulled off an incredible comeback versus Team Secret in the round-robin group that consisted of three teams. After losing to Breeze 5-13, the Korean team managed to tie the score on Lotus 13-9 then won Icebox after double overtime, 15-13, to complete a reverse sweep. When Team Secret and ZETA DIVISION squared up in the second series, things took an unexpected turn. The Filipino representatives took it out on Laz and the team, dominating Icebox with a 13-1 score before capturing Ascent with a 13-8 win. The Filipinos had just lost to Gen.G in a closely contested series.

Please take note that the Kickoff competitions this year feature a new format. Only three clubs make up one of the groups because the overall number is odd due to the participation of 11 partner teams. Consequently, the organizers decided to include a play-in stage, which would decide who advances to the next round of the playoffs. Keep in mind that VCT 2024: Pacific Kickoff will occur from February 17–25, 2024. Eleven partner teams are competing for three Pacific Points, which are required to qualify for the global championship, and two invites to the next Masters Madrid.
