Who Deserves The 2023 LCS Spring Split MVP?
Cloud9 and FlyQuest were tied for first place after the full 18-game schedule right before trading places at the top of the LCS standings in the final moments of the Spring Split. It was fitting that the top two seeds in the postseason bracket required a winner-take-all tiebreaker, and when the dust settled, Cloud9 had definitely earned the top spot, defeating FlyQuest in one of the split’s most competitive games.
Earlier this week, FlyQuest was annihilated by C9 in a match that appeared to all but seal C9’s position as NA’s top seed heading into the postseason. However, after C9 was defeated by CLG and FlyQuest defeated TSM to begin the last slate of games, it became clear that the two teams would meet at the end of the day to determine first place.
C9 proved in a true goliath-vs-goliath match that their late-split winning ways was a real threat, rolling over FlyQuest in just over 29 minutes.
While the earlier game between these two teams was a one-sided, over-before-it-even-began stomp in favor of C9, their last encounter was much closer, and one could even argue that it was the tightest, most back-and-forth game of the split thus far. Neither team was able to establish a solid gold lead of more than 3,000 until C9’s final push, and the two squads traded blows in both kills and towers for the majority of the game.
It wasn’t until C9 obtained a Hextech Soul and a Baron buff within one minute of each other that they were able to run away with the game and finally put FlyQuest behind them. With this victory, C9 enters the playoffs on a roll, having won eight of their last nine games. Meanwhile, FlyQuest has gone 3-4 in their last seven games, a sharp contrast to the eight-game winning streak they started the season with.

Coming into the tiebreaker match (and for the better part of the last week), narratives centered on Berserker and Prince, and how the MVP race between the two best players at their position was heating up. Although other names have floated around the MVP talks this year, Berserker and Prince remained atop the rest of the league. Berserker effectively ended the debate tonight.
Despite earning a Pentakill against TSM, Berserker put on his carry pants against FlyQuest, taking the game by the reins and flat-out dominating the opposition on a commanding Draven pick. Berserker dominated Draven after being demoted to Varus duty earlier today, finishing with a score of 12/1/2, accounting for over 28 percent of the team’s damage and earning over 30 percent of their gold.
Still, when asked who should be the MVP of the league in a postgame interview on the LCS broadcast, Berserker remained humble, saying that his teammate Blaber should be named the MVP.
C9 and FlyQuest will begin the postseason as the top two seeds in their respective brackets. Their first-round opponents will be determined by a series of tiebreaker games that have yet to be played, but they could face a combination of Evil Geniuses, 100 Thieves, and CLG.
