Evil Geniuses vs G2 Esports Preview, Live Stream, Odds, Picks & Predictions

This is Evil Geniuses Last Chance to Take Over 1st Place

As we all know, in Group C of the 2022 MSI each team will play 4 times against each other, making it a quadruple round-robin. This is double the amount compared to the other two groups in the tournament. Considering that Evil Geniuses already lost twice against G2 Esports and that they have 2 more encounters left, there is still hope for the North American representative to finish in 1st place.

Now, this will be the first match of Day 5 and on this day, Evil Geniuses, G2 Esports, and ORDER will all play against each other, meaning that this day will determine the outcome of Group C.

If Evil Geniuses manages to win this game against G2 Esports, it means that they still have a chance at getting 1st place. On the other hand, if they lose this match, there is no realistic way for them to get 1st. This is considering that both Evil Geniuses and G2 Esports will take down ORDER in their respective matches.

Even though G2 Esports already showed that they are the better team, there’s still room for Evil Geniuses to upset many esports picks, making this match a very interesting one to watch.

Evil Geniuses is Still Trying to Figure Out the Meta

Some teams came into this tournament with an upper hand, the way they were already playing fits the current meta for the 2022 MSI. For example, T1 and G2 are able to play around getting an early advantage and transitioning it into solid teamfights around objectives.

Royal Never Give Up is an interesting example, because if we look back at how they played back in the LPL spring playoffs, the early game wasn’t their strongest point. In fact, a lot of lol betting experts believed that Top Esports had a big advantage against RNG because they could play a better laning phase.

But here at MSI, Royal Never Give Up adapted quickly and is now playing more aggressively than any other team in the tournament. Which is something that Evil Geniuses hasn’t been able to do yet. Their first game against G2 Esports is a clear example, where they drafted Karthus, and Ryze, two champions that really don’t go well at all together.

Even if we give credit to G2 Esports for coming up with such bold picks so early on in the draft, Evil Geniuses seemed lost. In this tournament, there is no room for a slow-paced game, and if Evil Geniuses want to score a win against G2 Esports they’ll have to come up with something different than what we are used to seeing from them.

G2 Esports is Having Fun Testing Out Different Champions

During the opening day of MSI, G2 Esports played a couple of different interesting picks. One of them was Pyke, we know that G2 Esports is a very flexible team, we actually talked about this in this piece we wrote about them before the 2022 MSI started. But it’s still surprising to see them first pick Pyke against a team that they haven’t faced before.

Another pick that we saw come out was Anivia, a champion that we haven’t seen in a very long time on the international stage. Both of these picks came out against Evil Geniuses, and they worked out perfectly. One pick that didn’t seem to work very well was the Fiora pick by Brokenblade in their game against ORDER. Even though G2 managed to win that game easily, Brokenblade wasn’t able to do anything with that pick.

Now, while these weird picks have resulted in wins, it doesn’t necessarily mean that G2 Esports can rely on them for the rest of the tournament. I think the main question is if G2 Esports is relying on those picks to surprise their opponents, or if they are just simply having fun.

It’s well known that G2 Esports is a team that knows how to have fun in their games, but now on the international stage, they might want to try hard on this last day of the groups stage just to secure a top-1 finish.

G2 Esports took down Evil Geniuses two times already, and although the second time wasn’t as clean as the first one, it’s clear that they were messing around a bit too much.

The European team currently holds a 100% first blood rate, and they didn’t achieve this in a risky way The last time they played against EG, Targamas got an easy hook on Danny as a level 2 Pyke and that gave them the first blood. The way G2 Esports is getting their first bloods is amazing to watch, and I think it’s safe to go for G2 Esports getting the first blood in this game against Evil Geniuses.

PICK: G2 Esports to score first blood at -137

Now, nothing is indicating that G2 Esports will slow down on the last day of the groups stage. And in the same manner, Evil Geniuses hasn’t shown any real improvement over the past couple of days, and the lol odds indicate this. In the end, I think G2 Esports will take down Evil Geniuses with ease and will secure 1st place in Group C.

It’s important to remember that G2 Esports is playing against Evil Geniuses twice! So take that into account when placing your bets for this matchup.

PICK: G2 Esports to win at -227
