Evil Geniuses vs G2 Esports Preview, Live Stream, Odds, Picks & Predictions

This Is the First Europe vs North America Match Of 2022

Some people like to watch international events to witness the highest level of League of Legends in the world, others just watch it to see their favorite players face each other. And then there is the majority of us, the ones who want to see the 11-year-old EU vs NA rivalry unfold in front of our eyes.

Since the very first world championship, the EU vs NA rivalry has delivered some of the most exciting matches on the international stage we’ve ever seen. Battle of the Atlantics, Rift Rivals, Cloud9 vs Fnatic in 2015 Worlds, and all the All-Star matches. There have been so many memorable moments in this rivalry that all of us lol betting fans got to enjoy that it’s hard to name them all.

After 7 months, Europe and North America will face once again on the international stage.
After 7 months, Europe and North America will face once again on the international stage.

Of course, one could dismiss this rivalry by simply saying that Europe has performed better than North America when it comes to international events. But that would be very unfair because no one can deny how exciting it is to watch these matches, it doesn’t matter if you are an EU or an NA fan.

While G2 Esports has been one of Europe’s representatives in many instances, this will be the very first time that Evil Geniuses will represent North America on the international stage. With two different playstyles, these two teams will try to keep their region’s pride intact in this first international event of the year.

G2 Esports Performed a Miracle Run Against Everyone’s Expectations

After a questionable regular season and against the lol odds, G2 Esports managed to win four best-of-5 series in a row without dropping a single game. This happened after they lost their first series of the tournament against Fnatic in a very concerning way, but little did we know that this was all part of G2’s plan to surprise every single one of us.

Their run started with them taking down Europe’s “superteam” Vitality, and they did it without much hassle. After taking down Team Vitality, we would hear analysts use the “G2’s opponents didn’t play well” excuse for the first time. Two days after claiming their first victim, G2 Esports completely dismantled Misfits Gaming.

But I guess that G2’s opponents just played badly, right? Well, one could say that every single team in the LEC was just playing badly then. G2 Esports would advance into the semi finals where they had the opportunity to take down Fnatic, the culprits of G2’s fall to the lower bracket.

One could think that after three best-of-5 series then the teams would’ve figured out how to defeat G2 Esports. But none of them did, not even Fnatic as they got demolished by G2 in their rematch. One of G2’s biggest strengths is how flexible they are when it comes to playstyles. During the playoffs, they could rely on every single one of their members to perform when they needed it the most.

This was how G2 Esports was able to completely dominate Rogue in the grand finals. G2 finished their playoffs run with a 13-3 overall games score, the only games they dropped were during their first series against Fnatic, but after that, they won 12 games in a row. This was definitely one of the best runs we’ve ever seen in the LEC playoffs.

Evil Geniuses Is Representing NA For The First Time, And They Are Doing It With Two Rookies

We can talk about Evil Geniuses’ miracle run as, like did with G2, but I think there is something even more interesting about EG. They came into this split using two rookies and no one had high expectations of them, well, at least not LCS Champions expectations. But what happened during this spring split might actually change the approach most North American organizations have regarding rookies.

17-year-old Joseph Joon “jojopyun” Pyun and 18-year-old Kyle “Danny” Sakamaki are the two rookies that lifted the LCS trophy this last spring split. Both of them were key factors in Evil Geniuses’ victories and the most impressive thing is how confident they looked.

Jojopyun is already considered one of the best North American mid laners we’ve ever seen in the history of LCS, and this was his first split ever. The Evil Geniuses mid laner before becoming one of LCS’ most important players was an aspiring Fortnite professional player, and he clearly transitioned his skills into League of Legends quite well.

Before the MSI arrived, we made a piece on Evil Geniuses and we mentioned all of Danny’s achievements, which are just too many to mention again so go and check them out, you won’t regret it. Danny is only 18 years old and already lifted NA’s hope as he comes into this tournament regarded as one of the best ADCs in the world.

While some might think that being a rookie on the international stage is a disadvantage, I believe that it’s the opposite in Jojopyun and Danny’s case. We saw them confidently take down 100 Thieves in the fastest LCS grand finals we’ve ever had, so it’s safe to say that playing on a big stage won’t faze them.

Evil Geniuses come into the MSI with a very fixed playstyle, which is nothing like G2 Esports. The thing is, they are pretty good at that playstyle. EG focuses mostly on skirmishes and teamfights to take over the game in a slow but convincing way. Unlike other teams in this event, Evil Geniuses doesn’t put all their efforts into early lane aggression or late game side-lane-control, they prefer to simply outplay their opponents in teamfights because they know they are good at it.

Evil Geniuses vs G2 Esports Predictions

We have to be careful how we approach this game as this is the first international event of the year and these two teams play in two very different manners. First of all, I have to say that this will be the closest EU vs NA matchup we’ve had in a very long time.

Now, while I think that Evil Geniuses is one of the best teams at playing around teamfights, they are not the best in this tournament, which might raise some concerns for them. I think that if you are going to come into an international tournament performing one playstyle, then you better be the best at it, many lol gambling experts agree with this.

G2 Esports on the other hand, throughout the entirety of the season, we saw them play differently. Sometimes they had a top-focused plan that developed into strong side-lane control. Other times Caps and Jankos were the ones responsible for getting early leads and G2 steamrolled mid-game teamfights.

And I think that’s what makes teams like G2 Esports so strong in best-of-1s, their opponents have no clue what G2 is gonna throw at them. The only way I see Evil Geniuses winning this game is if G2 underperforms, not the other way around. I feel confident in G2’s flexibility and them being able to contain Jojopyun in the mid lane and at the same time, not let Danny be in a comfortable position,
