FaZe barely wins over Fnatic, while Cloud 9 sustains pressure from G2

FaZe Clan have officially advanced to the 2-0 class of the IEM Rio Major Europe Regional Major Ranking (RMR) A after an unexpected extremely close 19-17 victory against Fnatic.

Like their previous game against GamerLegion, FaZe were not performing to their highest level going into overtime to be able to close the game. Strategy wise, international CS GO juggernaut suffered in the Nuke match due to an incredible performance from the Latvian AWP main Helvijs “broky” Saukants.

Although Fnatic will definitely be upset for ultimately not taking down FaZe and moving on to the advancement match sooner in the event, they should definitely be proud for battling toe to toe against technically the current best CS GO team in the world.

IGL William “mezii” Merriman and AWP main Nico “nicoodoz” Tamjidi showed their potential talent in this game, after this performance Fnatic will most likely make the IEM Rio Major. Teams attending the Europe RMR need to win three matches in order to qualify for the tournament, taking into account that all elimination and advancement matches have a best of three series format.

Going into the second top-tier match, 2 of Europe’s best CS GO squads in G2 and Cloud 9, who are currently right next to each other in the HLTV world rankings, went against each other in the second round of the IEM Rio Major Europe Regional Major Ranking (RMR) A. Both squads met in a one-game affair to earn a possibility to move into the coveted 2-0 class.

The match was played on Mirage, where early in the game it looked like C9 were going to finish the game rather easily after a strong T-side half. The CIS team planned well for the match, seamlessly punishing G2’s site gaps and pushing into the sites with ease.

G2 managed to take a couple of rounds on their own T-side half, however, C9 countered with some incredible CT utility usage. After a back-and-forth battle was ensured, the game was in a 13-13 tie. C9 took the lead with a clutch defense setup on the A site after losing 2 players early in the round. At that point, G2’s economy was in the reds, and C9 was able to take the game 16-13.

C9 now moves into the 2-0 class for round three of IEM RMR Europe A and will face off against one of three possible teams in best of three series: FaZe Clan, NiP, or Sprout.

As for G2 they have now fallen into the 1-1 class, they must play another best-of-one in round three in order to continue in contention.
