Gen.G vs T1 Predictions, Game Preview, Live Stream, Odds & Picks

Gen.G Haven’t Dropped a Single Series

Remember when last split every single esports betting site was talking about T1’s perfect run? Well, this time Gen.G is trying to replicate the feat that a lot of people thought impossible. They have defeated 6 teams in a row, 5 in a 2-0 manner. The only team that took Gen.G all the way to the third game was one of the LCK trifecta, DWG KIA, most commonly known as Damwon. While Gen.G dropped 1 game, the series overall looked very one-sided towards them.

There are only 3 teams left to face Gen.G, and they are Liiv SANDBOX, T1, and DRX, 3 teams that are currently sitting in the top-half of the standings. It’s hard to tell if LSB and DRX will give Gen.G a run for their money like Damwon did, but it’s actually very unlikely. The only team in the list that is capable of not only putting up a good fight against them, but actually scoring a win over Gen.G, is T1, the 2022 MSI runner-ups.

Let’s remember that the 2022 LCK Spring Split grand finals was a match that a lot of people thought would end in Gen.G snapping T1’s 19-series win streak, even if the lol odds heavily favored a T1 victory. Unfortunately for all the T1 haters out there, the champions didn’t struggle at all and Gen.G was only capable of taking 1 game away. But things seem to be a bit different now, especially if we consider that there is only 1 lossless team this split so far.

Zeus vs. Doran, is there a Gap in the Top Lane?

Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon, top laner for Gen.G Esports

Well, that’s a question that might be a bit too hard to answer. In short, yes, but in reality, this encounter is way too complex to decide without seeing them battle it out first. On the surface, it might look like Doran is the best top laner, right? He has the best KDA of all the top laners in the league (4.9), dies way less, but how much of that comes from him being an absolute beast, or Gen.G being 6-0 so far?

If we take a look at how Zeus has been playing around his team, it’s easy to tell that he is the perfect fit for T1. Yeah, he might die quite a lot in isolation and make some mistakes in the mid game when playing in the side lanes. But the impact that this player has not only in his lane, but in the whole map, is something to be afraid of if you are Gen.G. Let’s see how his stats are looking so far into the summer split: AVG Kills (3.8), KP (68.6%), DMG% (28.6%), DPM (597), CSD@15 (9), all of them considerably higher than Doran’s.

Each player’s champion pool is another important thing we have to take into consideration. In this summer split, it looks like Gen.G is more than comfortable just putting Doran in Gnar duty, which isn’t that bad, but it might be an issue going up against Zeus. T1’s top laner has played Camile twice and Gwen 3 times, both are champions that can work as a great answer to Gnar.

In the end, I think that it’s very obvious that Gen.G will try their best to either: Neutralize Zeus from the get-go (draft + laning phase), or use all their resources into the other lanes while they pray Doran doesn’t fall that behind by the mid to late game.

T1 Have a Buff Against Strong Teams, and Bad Habits too

Choi “Zeus” Woo-je, top laner for T1

We already talked a bit about how Zeus dies quite a lot in isolation. In fact, in the LCK, he is the top laner that dies the most while being alone throughout the game. That’s only one of the many habits T1 has that ends up costing them games. It seems that they are way too overconfident in their raw mechanical skill that they want to play from a losing position, starting from the draft.

No T1, we are not going to forget your atrocious draft in the opening week in game 1 against KT Rolster. Faker ended up picking Kassadin against Azir, which in itself is not a bad pick, but you need to make sure that you’ll be able to withstand the lack of mid pressure. What ended up happening is that KT’s top triangle took control of the game after picking up a couple of kills in Faker and Oner. T1 went for a very questionable Herald fight that left KT with a 6-kill lead and a 3k gold advantage.

This team loves taking fights while being down in numbers, and this happens constantly. Luckily for them, this is one of the things that they’ve been working on the most and it reflects in their gameplay. But this is definitely a mistake that can cost them games against the very best teams in the league. Imagine picking a 3v4 or 4v5 against a team like Gen.G, that’s basically digging your own grave.

Yes, some of the absolute best players in the world are playing under the T1 wings, but that doesn’t mean that you can underestimate your opponents time and time again. If you do that, you end up losing against Kwangdong Freecs, a team that only had 2 wins in the split. Zeus, Oner, and Gumayusi, are absolute machines and they are capable of carrying games by themselves, it all depends on how cocky they are.

The most impressive fact about T1 is how they look like they are playing with their food when facing weaker teams, but when it comes to playing against the very best, they completely change their approach. This was demonstrated in the spring split very clearly throughout the playoffs. This match is going to be the perfect opportunity for them to show that they still have this buff.

Gen.G vs T1 Predictions

T1’s bot lane, Gumayusi and Keria

This is going to be the most exciting match of not only the week, but of the entire summer split. In the piece we did about the best matches of the LCK Summer Split Week 4, we did a small preview of this game. But now we have gone over the most important aspects of this matchup and that should give us an idea on which team comes more prepared for this game.

I think that T1 have shown their very clear weaknesses, but we have to take into account that they are a very volatile team when playing against lower rated squads. Now they are going up against the very best of the LCK, and they are not going to take this match lightly.

T1’s top triangle is far more aggressive and proactive, which makes me feel confident in them being able to take this match home. Yes, Chovy is probably the best mid laner in the league right now, but Faker is the best mid when it comes to enabling his teammates, and that is going to be a determining factor in this game.

Also another important thing worth mentioning when it comes to league of legends bets is that the LCK is a league with a low kill count in general, averaging 21 kills. Going for under -23.5 seems like a safe choice, especially in this matchup.
