The Spaniards couldn’t withstand Cloud9’s Aggression

Sitting on a 0-3 record following the loss, Movistar Riders are facing elimination, with the Spanish squad relying on several other results to go their way, as well as needing to win their two remaining matches against Evil Geniuses and Eternal Fire for a chance to make the playoffs.

Cloud9 got off to a hot start on Inferno, with interz winning a 1vs3 clutch in the second round to give his team a platform for a dominant half. The CIS squad won six in a row before Movistar Riders got on the board with two close rounds. With Cloud9 winning the next, an 11-4 scoreline was the best Movistar Riders could muster, due to the Spaniards never establishing their economy.

A pistol round win for Movistar Riders looked to start a comeback for the Spaniards, but it was not to be. Cloud9 looked comfortable on their CT side as soon as they got a full buy, winning the five rounds they required to win the map. interz provided an unlikely source of firepower on the map, as he put up 27 kills and 109 ADR to move the series on to Vertigo

Vertigo began with Movistar Riders winning the pistol round and taking the lead in the game. Cloud9 won the force buy straight away, equalizing the scores at 1-1 and then running away with the map with 14 straight rounds, absolutely dominating their opponents on their way to a massive lead at halftime. Movistar Riders came closest to getting another round on the board in the ninth, when sh1ro and Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov denied them by converting a 2vs4 post-plant situation.

Closing out the game was a mere formality for Cloud9, with a pistol win for Movistar Riders prolonging the game for a few more rounds. Cloud9 were quick to put a stop to that, securing a 16-4 victory as soon as their economy allowed it. And remember you can find out about our esports betting here!

With their recent defeat against the Geniuses, Eternal Fire are now close to being knocked out of playoff contention altogether. The only positive note about that series was that the victory also marked the first time Evil Geniuses have beaten a European opponent in over 476 days, the last time being versus Heroic at IEM Summer 2021.

While their match against Cloud9 occurred a couple of days ago, we could take a look at how it went to get an idea on what to expect from the Turkish squad. Cloud9 came out of the gates swinging on Dust2 as HObbit and Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov topped the scoreboard early to give their team a 6-2 lead. T

The momentum shifted after Eternal Fire found their groove and started to out-duel their Russian opponents at every corner, eventually reaching a 9-6 lead at halftime. XANTARES and Özgür “woxic” Eker came alive in the latter part of the half as the pair put up 1.79 and 1.33 ratings, respectively.

The tables completely turned in the second period as Eternal Fire were unable to build on their first half success and only picked up three more rounds for the remainder of the map. Cloud9’s CT side prowess allowed them to wrap up Dust2 in style and take home the 16-12 victory behind HObbit’s 25 kills and 1.34 rating.

Eternal Fire drew first blood on Overpass thanks to a quad-kill from Ahmet “paz” Karahoca and controlled majority of the first half which gave them an 11-4 lead at the switch. XANTARES was in a league of his own as the Turkish rifler racked up crucial opening frags and recorded a whopping 23-7 K-D with 172.9 ADR. Eternal Fire had the advantage coming out of halftime on both maps but couldn’t hold on to their lead, giving Evil Geniuses their first victory of the tournament.

An encounter between the two worst teams in Group D might end up being an interesting one to watch. Both teams have shown a lot of exciting plays and their fast-paced game style might make this clash worth watching. Ultimately, I think that the Turkish team will have the upper hand as they have demonstrated superior individual level compared to the Riders.
