Both teams have a Free Pass to Playoffs
Fortunately for both the Korean and Chinese fans, it’s basically set in stone that RNG and Gen.G are going to make it out of groups, which is exactly what we were expecting heading into Worlds 2022. From what we’ve seen so far, CFO and 100 Thieves look leagues below the rest of the competition. In fact, it isn’t that crazy to say that 100 Thieves might be the single weakest team in the tournament, with only Evil Geniuses being the other team in the discussion.
The only “unexpected” result we’ve seen in this group was RNG’s victory over Gen.G on the opening day of Worlds. While almost every single analyst thought that LCK’s strongest team would simply roll over RNG, the Chinese squad wasn’t going to make it easy for them. In reality, RNG might be the strongest Chinese team, despite them coming as the #4 seed. RNG had some issues during the summer split, but it seems that they’ve managed to fix them.
Both Gen.G and RNG know that they are making it to the playoffs stage, and all they are focused on is winning this game. The outcome of this game will directly impact the standings, and the difference between making it out as 1st or 2nd place is huge, which is why we can expect a great level of League of Legends for this match.
Stylistic Differences in the Mid lane

Even though both Chovy and Xiaohu come into this tournament as some of the very best players in the world, it’s very obvious that there are huge differences between them, especially when it comes to the champion pool. Let’s not forget that the mid lane meta seems to be based around Azir, the champion that every single mid laner in the tournament is playing, except for Xiaohu. That’s right, the Chinese mid laner hasn’t played Azir a single time in the tournament so far.
RNG’s mid laner prefers to play champions like Lissandra and Galio because that’s exactly what his team needs. On the other hand, Chovy is acting as Gen.G’s protagonist, meaning that his team needs him on a high-damage dealing champion like Azir or Ahri. This is mostly because the rest of his team can play around that, with Peanut and Lehends acting as the enablers for both Chovy and Ruler, while Doran is left alone without much concern.
If we take a look at their first encounter last week, Chovy was playing Azir against Xiaohu’s Lissandra, and we can expect a similar matchup this time around. Chovy ended up dealing 40.9% of his team’s DMG, while Xiaohu did 26.8%, though that doesn’t tell the whole story. From the very beginning, we saw RNG (specifically Xiaohu) move around the map, exerting a huge amount of pressure on their Korean counterparts, which is why we couldn’t see much action from Gen.G’s laners.

RNG vs Gen.G Prediction

This is going to be the single most important match happening on the last day of group stage because it will decide which team ends up on top of the standings. There is no more room to fool around and we can expect both teams to play to their full potential, giving us the chance to watch one of the best games of the year.
For Gen.G, this means that Chovy needs to be ready in case RNG decides to pull-off some interesting mid lane pick. Also, Doran needs to be careful because we all know that Breathe is perfectly capable of stomping every single top lane matchup, especially against a player like Doran, who doesn’t receive much help during the laning phase as Peanut has to put all his attention towards the lower side of the map.
I feel confident saying that RNG heads into this match as the heavy favorites, even if the odds don’t indicate so. They already beat the Gen.G, and they won’t have much trouble repeating the feat unless something extremely unexpected happens during the draft.
This is the last match of the Worlds group stage, meaning that playoffs kick off next week, so make sure to stay tuned as we’ll be sharing our esports picks on a daily basis. Also, don’t forget to bet on esports at BetUS Sportsbook & Casino. We’ve plenty of lol odds for you to consider.
