Will the fairy tale continue?

It’s no secret 2024 has been a tough year for T1, especially after winning worlds last season. Issues ranging from lack of practice due to infrastructure security issues to overall playstyle and in-game performance, the Korean juggernauts have been hit left and right. Nevertheless, they still managed to push their way through the domestic season and punch a ticket for Worlds 2024.

Their first opponent is not an easy one, the #3 seed of the LPL. However T1 is known for their incredible performances against LPL squads, especially last year where they found themselves against 3 of them in the semifinals. Ultimately winning the entire event.

This time around we are seeing the weakest T1 has ever been with their current roster. Qualifying through the regional stage after losing to Dplus KIA 2-3 and edging out a 3-2 outcome versus KT Rolster. Most notably, their mid game decision making took a big hit, as even after gathering an average of +790 gold before 15 minutes they only won 50% of matches being ahead in the early game.

Odds stand at 1.78 for T1 to take the series.

Looking to break the curse

As mentioned above, the LPL is no stranger to T1, and this will be their strongest chance to finally take them down. TES ranks 4th in the LoL Global Rankings after finishing 3rd in the LPL Summer Season Playoffs, including strong performances against LNG and AL.

TES continues to play a “face first approach” which has been a bit inconsistent against experienced squads domestically, such as BLG and WBG. However we don’t expect their approach to change much at Worlds, due to most of their favorite champions still being strong in the current meta. The main change we expect in the draft phase is from Creme, who mostly played AD mid laners such as Zeri, Tristana, and Corki. This time around the mid lane meta seems to be favoring control mages once again, with Orianna and Syndra being extremely prominent.

Ultimately, T1 is an experienced team which can sustain the early onslaught TES is known for, however a few curve balls might be enough to shake the matchup around. Odds stand at 2.06 for Top Esports to win and finally break the LPL’s curse.
