Absolute Chaos in the LCS
Now that the end of the 2022 LCS Summer regular season is right around the corner, chaos is the only word that can describe the state of the league. There have been so many shifts in momentum throughout the whole split and there are only a couple of teams that look like strong contenders for the title. Let’s take a quick look at the standings to have a clear idea on what’s going on.
- 100 Thieves (12-3)
- Evil Geniuses (12-3)
- CLG (10-5)
- Team Liquid (10-5)
- Cloud9 (8-7)
- FlyQuest (7-8)
- TSM (5-10)
- Golden Guardians (4-11)
- Immortals (4-11)
- Dignitas (3-12)
100 thieves, Evil Geniuses, CLG, and Team Liquid have already secured a top-6 finish, while Cloud9 has only secured a play-off spot. TSM, Golden Guardians, Immortals, and Dignitas all have a chance at getting a playoff spot, though some teams’ chances are way more realistic.
TSM and Immortals are two teams that could definitely snatch a playoff spot. But for Golden Guardians and Dignitas, it’s a whole different story. Golden Guardians is currently on a 6-game losing streak, and there are no clear indicators that they’ll be able to turn things around. Dignitas lost their strongest player to GGS and a last-place finish is the most likely scenario for them.
Today we’ll be going over a match between CLG and TSM. There used to be an extremely heated rivalry in this matchup, but not anymore. In the past couple of splits TSM was dominating over CLG. Now CLG is a much better team than TSM due to all of their recent changes.
CLG is the Story of the Split
In the spring split, CLG finished 8th place with a 6-12 record under their belt. Now in the summer split, if they win two more games they’ll be able to reverse their record. But that’s nothing compared to what they have been able to achieve in terms of performance. We used to think of CLG as a “volatile” team, meaning that they could lose even against the worst teams. But that’s not the case, they have won every single one of their matches against the bottom-rated teams (Dignitas, Golden Guardians, Immortals, and TSM).
Not only that, but CLG has already taken down some of the strongest contenders in the league. A couple of weeks ago, CLG picked up a win over Team Liquid when they were heavily considered the underdogs (CLG +281 vs TL -417) and we correctly predicted their win in one of our esports picks. They also secured a victory over the Spring champions Evil Geniuses in the 2nd week of the tournament.
They are currently one of the hottest teams in the LCS as they are on a 5-game winning streak. If they manage to extend their streak to 8, then they would finish on a 13-5 record. That same score was the one they achieved in their 2015 Summer & 2016 Spring campaigns, and those times, CLG ended up championing the league. We might be getting ahead of ourselves, but CLG going to worlds is a reality, though they still have a few challenges coming up.

TSM vs CLG Predictions
When it comes to TSM, there isn’t much to say about them that we haven’t said before. They’ve been going through so many roster changes this season and none of them have worked out so far. I wouldn’t be surprised if TSM at this point is preparing towards the 2023 season. They are only favorites to win against the teams sitting at the very bottom of the standings, like Dignitas and Immortals and the lol odds back this up.
As I mentioned before, we used to think highly of the CLG vs TSM matches a long time ago. Now CLG is a solid contender for world’s participation while TSM is really struggling to barely make it into the playoffs.
I think that Palafox and Luger will simply roll over their counterparts and continue on being these solid teamfighting performers we’ve been seeing in this split. They shouldn’t break a sweat against TSM, but the real challenge for CLG this week is facing 100 Thieves on Saturday.
