2023: The Year of Rory McIlroy’s Resurgence

Back the Northern Irishman in the majors

Bettors can now invest in the four golf majors in 2023, and it’s a good time to jump on the early odds.

The Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open and the Open Championship always attract the interest, with bettors finding value in the early golf betting online markets.

We are expecting Rory McIlroy to have a big year after not winning a major since 2014. It’s been too long for the superstar, and he’s one of a few players who could get back to winning.

McIlroy at Masters

McIlroy has been as close as one can get to winning the Masters. He hasn’t worn the Green Jacket.

It’s only a matter of time before McIlroy wins at Augusta, and 2023 could be his time. He finished second this past April.

Having not won a major since the 2014 PGA Championship is weighing on the mind of McIlroy. He is playing excellent golf, though, evidenced by 17 top-10 finishes in majors since winning his last major.

It’s an incredible record, and golf betting markets have McIlroy at +1100 to win. It’s a value price and he’s our man to win the first major of 2023.

I’m playing some of the best golf I’ve played in a long time. So it’s just a matter of keep knocking on the door, and eventually one will open,” McIlroy told SkySports.

“At the end of the day, it’s not life or death. I’ll have other chances to win the Open Championship and other chances to win majors. It’s one that I feel like I let slip away, but there will be other opportunities.”

Schauffele in PGA Championship

If Rory McIlroy does not win the PGA Championship in May, expect Xander Schauffele to be fighting for that title..

He has achieved plenty in golf, but hasn’t won a major. The 2020 Olympics gold medalist owns nine top-10 finishes in majors, including a PGA T10 result in 2020 and  T13 in 2022.

He’s only, but plays more mature than that. There is ample time for Schauffele to get on a run and win big tournaments. Taking the Travelers Championship and Scottish Open consecutively earlier in 2022 served notice.

Golf odds are always generous for Schauffele, and we get +1800, which is worth a wager.

Scheffler at U.S. Open

Scottie Scheffler is one of the hottest golfers in the world, and he could go into 2023 still as its top-ranked player.

The 26-year-old won the 2022 Masters, before finishing strongly for T2 in the U.S. Open, It’s that performance that leads us to believe he could go one better.

If not for an incredible bunker shot from Matt Fitzpatrick on the final hole, Scheffler might have been crowned U.S. Open champ.

We are expecting him to be in contention in all of the majors, with his best chances at the Los Angeles Golf Club in June. Thriving under the conditions, and the sportsbook offers +1100 to win.

Double Down on McIlroy

Regardless of whether McIlroy wins the Masters, we are backing him to win the Open Championship.

He’s the current +800 favorite, the only golfer paying less than +1000 to win any of the majors. There is a stack of market confidence with him.

It’s at Royal Liverpool, site of his 2014 Open Championship win. So, the good memories could work for him.

Understanding why he’s favorite, we wouldn’t bet against him this far out.
