Odds Against Charlie Woods Following in Father’s Footsteps
The biggest name in golf is still Tiger Woods, but could his son, Charlie, follow in his legendary footsteps?
The sportsbook odds of Woods becoming an elite professional golfer would be slim, but he’s Tiger’s son and with that comes a lot of hype – and pressure.
We look at the real statistics behind Charlie Woods, and how he ranks among his peers.

How Does Charlie Woods Rank?
It pays to overlook the amount of TV time the young Woods gets.
It’s not his fault – his dad is one of the greatest athletes of all time and a winner of 15 major championships. However, Charlie Woods is nowhere near the best for his age group.
Woods recently finished T103 at the Future Masters tournament, which was his first USGA tournament.
It shows how far behind he is of golfers around his age, and he has been afforded every opportunity to play well.
The 15-year-old certainly still has time to improve, and he’s better than most golfers of that age, but he’s not better than other competitive golfers at 15.
“The USGA means a lot to me,” Woods said. “I want to win USGA championships and hopefully one day the U.S. Open.”
Charlie has his eyes set on winning majors, but we think he needs to lower his sights. His last name will get him into a top university, but he needs to show extreme improvement to get a spot on the golf team.
It’s unfortunate, but the offspring of champion players don’t often do much themselves. Tiger was, and still is, a freak on the golf course. It’s unfair to put the same expectation on Charlie.
Woods doesn’t rank very highly for his age group, and that’s where the biggest concern is. The rise in class from age-group golf to pro golf is exceptionally high, so he’ll need to improve out of sight just to make any tour, let alone the PGA.
Can Charlie Woods Improve and Become a Pro?
There is loads of improvement to come for Woods, but not everyone is born with the same desire and passion.
It’s what makes champions so great, because they have a desire more than anyone else and, of course, talent.
Woods is a talented golfer and he could become a professional, but we would be surprised to see him make his mark in the pro golfing world.
He ranks 38th in the class of 2027, so he could get a college Division I scholarship. However, with 37 players currently ranked above him in his class, it’s unlikely to be at one of the top schools based on merit.
He ranks 596th in global junior rankings and 549th in the US. TUGR, which ranks the junior players, believes Woods could make a D1 college.
“Charlie Woods moves up to 38th in the Class of 2027 per TUGR Junior Rankings. After finishing 1st in his qualifier for the US Junior Am, he’s currently at the highest rank of his junior career in every category. Very much a D1 prospect and trending in the right direction,” the statement said.
It would be great to see Woods play pro tournaments when he’s older, and even better if his father is on his bag. However, when reality sets in, we think he might try to go a different route.
