Honda Classic Matchups Picks: Big Guns Headline At Florida

Bet on Golf

The Honda Classic has attracted a quality PGA Tour field, including some of the biggest names in world golf.

Online betting is available for players such as Adam Scott, Lee Westwood, Doug Ghim and Harold Varner III, who we’re expecting to play well in South Florida this week.

Backing up after The Players Championship is never easy, but golfers often keep their form through the Florida swing, so we recommend backing players that did well last week. Check on Honda Classic Matchups odds.

Joaquin Niemann vs Adam Scott

Joaquin Niemann is having a solid season and the 22-year-old comes off a top-30 finish at The Players.

The Chilean was only 10 shots back of Justin Thomas and, despite having a three-shot advantage on Adam Scott, we’re picking the Australian to win.

Scott is slowly getting back to his best golf after a few rough years. The 40-year-old from Adelaide did well to finish in the top 50 last week and that should give him confidence. He has the experience edge over Niemann, who is expected to have a drop in form over the coming weeks.

A winner of the Honda Classic in 2016, Adam Scott knows what it takes to win on the PGA Tour and he should have the advantage.

Scott is paying +145 at our online sportsbook, which is great shopping.

Pick: Adam Scott +145

Lee Westwood vs Shane Lowry

Lee Westwood is having an incredible run of form, which includes second placings at The Players and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The Englishman also captured the Race for Dubai on the European Tour last season, so he’s a man on fire. Many have attributed his form to his caddy and fiance, who has helped relax the 47-year-old.

Westwood has come under criticism for not having a caddy to help him with yardages, but you can’t disagree with his results.

Shane Lowry closed nicely last week to finish eighth. The Irish professional is a notable big tournament player, so he might not play well at the Honda Classic.

His best performances have come in majors, including winning the 2019 Open Championship and finishing second at the 2016 US Open.

Given Westwood’s current form, the golf betting line of +105 is a steal.

Pick: Lee Westwood +105

Cameron Davis vs Doug Ghim

We felt sorry for Doug Ghim last week at The Players. The American youngster was tied for second place during the final round, but he missed a short putt for par and his round unraveled.

Ghim went on to shoot +6 and drop to T29 for the tournament. Despite losing a stack of money, we like Ghim to rebound and play well at the Honda Classic.

Knowing he was good enough to compete on the big stage is a bonus and he’s a fun-loving and confident player.

Cameron Davis had been playing well this season before missing the cut last week. That won’t do his confidence any good and he can struggle on the Florida swing.

We are not surprised to see money coming for Ghim, who no doubt earned himself more fans after showing a good attitude in defeat at The Players.

Pick: Doug Ghim -120

Harold Varner III vs Jhonattan Vegas

Jhonattan Vegas found some form at The Players last week and it backed up a second-place finish at the Puerto Rico Open.

Despite his good form, Vegas is tough to trust on the PGA Tour and he’s not the most consistent guy out there.

We prefer Harold Varner III, who made the cut last week and it backed up from a top-25 finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which was a much stronger field than the Puerto Rico Open.

Varner has played around the world and although yet to win on the PGA Tour, his win at the Australian PGA Championship in 2016 was full of class.

He is a player worth following on the PGA Tour and bettors always get a value price with bookmakers.

Varner is the -115 favorite against Vegas and he should be able to start well on Thursday and click clear of the Venezuela native.

Pick: Harold Varner III -115
