In 44 career major championships, Dustin Johnson has two wins, 20 top 10 finishes, and only seven missed cuts. In his last 11, he’s recorded one win, seven top 10s, and missed just one cut. His latest seven major tournaments have found him in the top 10 five times with one victory and no missed cuts. If you are a golf betting enthusiast, Dustin Johnson is currently your best bet in most upcoming tournaments in our online sportsbook.
Number One Player
It’s not surprising that the world’s number one player finally broke through at the Masters for his second major title. Despite a monumental collapse at the 2010 U.S. Open and then an infamous club grounding incident at the PGA Championship later in the same year, Johnson has been a model of consistency.
Since joining the Tour in 2008, the 36-year-old has won at least one tournament every season and 24 Tour events in all. His prodigious length and calm demeanor have made him a recognizable star, at times belying his all-around talent.
He began his 2021 season with three consecutive top six finishes, culminating in his record-setting 20-under-par performance at the Masters. His long-awaited follow-up to the 2016 U.S. Open title at Oakmont was truly a thing of beauty.
Watching Johnson win his second major at the age of 36 was reminiscent of Phil Mickelson, who collected his second with a victory in the 2005 PGA Championship. Mickelson was 35 at the time and had also endured his share of close calls and squandered opportunities.
Easily the second-best player of his generation behind Tiger Woods, the popular left-hander has gone on to win three more major championships. With Johnson now in possession of U.S. Open and Masters titles, it’s reasonable to speculate on whether the leading player on the PGA Tour and in the world can collect another major trophy in 2021.
2021 Majors
A quick look through the golf futures in our sportsbook will show you that Johnson is the favorite to win every, single major in 2021. Let’s take a walk through those tournaments, and his odds to win them.
Johnson’s first opportunity will come at the Masters in April, a mere five months after his November victory. Even though conditions will be different, Johnson’s recent record at Augusta National has been very impressive. His four appearances prior to his breakthrough win all resulted in top 10 finishes. Johnson has +800 odds to win the 2021 US Masters.
In 10 starts at the season’s first major, his only missed cut was in 2014. Given his success at Augusta and recent momentum on Tour, it’s no surprise that Johnson is the early favorite to defend his title, with futures odds of +700. He would be the first to do so since Tiger Woods won his third green jacket in 2003.
The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, SC, will host its second PGA Championship in 2021. In 2012, Johnson finished in a tie for 48th, 18 shots behind winner Rory McIlroy, who won by a record eight strokes. His odds to win the 2021 PGA Championship sit at +785.
The course can play at over 7,800 yards, requiring length off the tee, which should favor Johnson. Of the four major tournament sites for 2021, the Ocean Course will probably provide the toughest test for Johnson to capture another title.
While Johnson is familiar with Torrey Pines, the venue for the 2021 U.S. Open, he hasn’t had much success at the La Jolla, Calif., course. He finished in a tie for 48th in the 2008 U.S. Open, his first major tournament, famously known for Tiger Woods’ thrilling playoff victory over Rocco Mediate. Just like the aforementioned Masters Tournament, Dustin’s odds to win the 2021 U.S. Open sit at +800.
Torrey Pines is also the site for the annual Farmers Insurance Open, where Johnson has not performed well outside of a third-place tie in 2011. In six other appearances, his best finish is a tie for 19th with two missed cuts.
The final major of the season will be the Open Championship at Royal St. George’s in Sandwich, Kent, England. It last hosted the Open in 2011 when Johnson finished in a tie for second, three shots behind Darren Clarke. In our odds to win the 2021 Open Championship, Johnson of course leads the pack with +800 odds yet again.
Between the Masters, where Johnson just won, and the Open Championship being played on a course where he finished second, there is a great probability that he snags his third major title in 2021. Laying a wager on all of these now means one win for Dustin will double your total wager amount, assuming you lay the same on all four majors. Can he win two?
