Market Confidence with American
Nate Lashley has been through hell in his life, but the 40-year-old tops golf betting markets for the Puerto Rico Open and he could be tough to beat.
It might not be a major golf tournament and it’s played at the same time as the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but it counts as a PGA Tour win.
The betting market is wide open and there is value to be snapped up.
Let’s check the latest Golf news, stats, injury reports, and Golf lines. We’ve got plenty of Golf picks for you to consider.
Favorite Nearing Win
Lashley won the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Classic, and although he has only one win as a 40-year-old, this tournament is there for the taking.
The University of Arizona alumni endured the loss of his parents and his girlfriend in college when they died in a plane crash. To take his mind off the tragedy, he played golf, and he’s better than a one-win player.
“Golf was a release, something to get away from it all”, Lashley said. “When you’re on the course, your focus is on golf. It took away some of the pain from thinking about my parents and my girlfriend and the crash”.
He finished T20 at the Genesis Invitational behind Jon Rahm and he made the cut at the Phoenix Open, which is better than many of his competitors at the Puerto Rico Open this week.
Lashley is rarely paying +1400 to win a golf tournament, but we think he’s the best player in the field.
- Pick: Nate Lashley +1400
Wu to Woo Bettors
Dylan Wu comes off a tidy performance of T10 at the Honda Classic, and he could keep producing the goods at the Puerto Rico Open.
The sportsbook has Wu at +4000 to win and that’s a value price for a young player with plenty of upside.
The 26-year-old won on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2021 before graduating to the PGA Tour. He then finished T31 at the 2021 U.S. Open, which is the only time he has contested a major championship.
The former Northwestern Wildcat player has been around the mark in 2023 and he doesn’t need to improve much to beat this field.
- Pick: Dylan Wu +4000
Martin Eyes Overdue Win
Ben Martin is on the second line of betting at +1800, so there is plenty of respect for the one-time winner.
He comes off a T5 finish at the Honda Classic, which could give him enough confidence to win his first tournament since 2014.
The 35-year-old won the Shriners Open by two strokes when beating Kevin Streelman, but he hasn’t won since. That’s a long time between drinks, but his recent form suggests a win isn’t far away.
Playing the second-level PGA Tour tournaments is his best chance of success and betting online markets have him at fair odds.
His career was interrupted by back and hip injuries. He missed most of 2018 and played just one event in 2019, so he’s slowly getting back to his best and he could be near the top of the leaderboard throughout the week.
- Pick: Ben Martin +1800
Points at Mammoth Odds
Betting on D.A. Points to win on the PGA Tour might seem like giving money away, but the three-time winner could have something left in the tank.
His best years are behind him, but the 46-year-old hasn’t played too poorly in 2023 and he’s meeting a lot of players who have yet to win on the Tour.
Points won the 2011 Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Shell Houston Open and 2017 Puerto Rico Open. Having winning experience in this tournament bodes well, especially when seeing off the likes of Bryson DeChambeau by two strokes.
That win was only six years ago, so Points is good enough to win and the odds could be too good to pass up.
Include Points in your golf picks at +17500.
