All eyes are on the U.S. Open at The Country Club outside Boston this week and U.S. Open odds are available for every golfer.
The biggest mover in the market is Rory McIlroy following his RBC Canadian Open victory. He was already a big market mover as many bettors expect the Northern Irishman to win his first major since 2014.
However, it’s a red-hot field and it will be interesting to see the reception for the LIV Tour players from the typically mild-mannered golfing crowd.
Let’s check the latest golf news, stats, injury reports, and golf odds U.S. Open. We’ve plenty of predictions for you to consider.
Crowd Goes Wild for McIlroy
If Sunday’s win for McIlroy proved one thing, it’s that the 33-year-old is still one of the most popular players in the game.
A huge crowd followed McIlroy as he walked the 18th hole at the Canadian Open and that momentum could carry to the U.S. Open, which is a tournament he won in 2011 at Congressional.
McIlroy, who threw shade at Greg Norman in his post-win press conference on Sunday, is warming up to a long overdue major win. He hasn’t won a major since 2014, which is an eternity for one of the best to ever play the sport.
“Yeah, I’m pretty sure what’s going to happen over the final 18 holes here is going to be more entertaining than what other golf was played this week anywhere else,” McIlroy told Golf.com.
“Twenty-first PGA Tour win, one more than someone else. That gave me a little extra incentive today.”
There’s nothing better than McIlroy laying the smack down on Norman, and although the U.S. Open has little to do with The Shark, it has put a fire in McIlroy’s belly and he’s a dangerous proposition.
Golf betting markets have the favorite at +900, so he is a big mover. He is a leading chance and the crowd could go wild for him in consecutive weeks.
Pick: Rory McIlroy +900
Thomas Seeking Consecutive Majors
All is right in the world when the likes of McIlroy and Justin Thomas are battling for tournament victories.
Thomas made a strong challenge last week but fell just short. However, bettors who launched into his U.S. Open odds won’t be worried as he nears another major victory.
The American was another firmer with golf odds following his third placing at the Canadian Open. He is on the second line of betting at +1200 as he seeks consecutive majors following his win at the PGA Championship.
There was a time when Thomas was playing well but not putting himself in contention on the final day. We believe that’s a thing of the past and Thomas will contend the U.S. Open on Sunday, potentially seeing him win his third major.
The value is still there at +1200 and his odds could firm closer to tee off time. He is always a popular betting option and we see his odds closing around +1000.
Pick: Justin Thomas +1200
Nothing Wrong with Zalatoris
There hasn’t been much support in betting online markets for Will Zalatoris, despite his impressive finishes in majors.
The wirey American lost in a playoff to Thomas at the PGA Championship, and although he’s yet to win a major or on the PGA Tour, it’s only a matter of time.
He has consistently proven himself as a big-time player and the +2500 odds are worth entertaining. We priced him around +2000 given his excellent recent form, but the market has forgotten about him a touch.
We like the way he handled himself following yet another major championship runner-up finish and that attitude takes him a long way. He handles the pressure and we’re taking the risk.
Pick: Will Zalatoris +2500
Johnson to Make Statement
Dustin Johnson’s form since winning the Masters has been poor to say the least, but he wants to make a statement at the U.S. Open.
After accepting a mouth-watering offer to join the LIV Tour, Johnson is set for life, but don’t doubt his need to carve out a legacy.
