Rahm Eyeing Top Spot at American Express

Top Field for Latest PGA Tour Stop

After a disappointing field last week, the golfing stars are back in force at The American Express which starts on Thursday.

Jon Rahm headlines golf betting markets at +650, but there is a hot field looking to chase him down. Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele and Tom Kim are out in force.

La Quinta hosts the event and it should be a big week on the links.

Let’s check the latest Golf odds, stats, injury reports, and Golf lines for PGA Tour American Express. We’ve plenty of Golf betting odds for you to consider.

Rightful No. 1

We believe Rahm is the best player in the world, despite the unruly world rankings saying otherwise.

The Spaniard is in winning form, having won the Tournament of Champions to kick off 2023, which followed recent wins in the DP World Tour Championship and the Open de Espana.

He’s the best player in the field and that’s why the sportsbook has him at +600, which is the only single-figure price available. We’re not surprised by the odds as he targets the top spot at American Express.

Oh, I definitely do, yeah. And had they not changed the world ranking points, I would have been pretty damn close right now,” Rahm said. “At this point I’m thinking, will I pass Patrick Cantlay? Because since the playoffs, I have not missed a top-seven. I’ve won three times, and I don’t even get close to him. So I’m trying to understand what’s going on.

I feel like since August I’ve been the best player in the world. I feel like, and I think a lot of us should feel like a lot of times we’re the best.

We’re happy with the current odds and Rahm’s ability to shoot low numbers is why he’s the one to beat.

  • Pick: Jon Rahm +600

Cantlay has Point to Prove

Rahm has openly talked about how he should be above Cantlay in the rankings, so Cantlay could come out and show him who’s boss at The American Express.

Cantlay is one of the more consistent winners on the PGA Tour and he did enough at the Tournament of Champions, finishing T16, to suggest that he could get back to winning form.

The 30-year-old is a former FedEx Cup champion and he has been well-backed to win at +900, which is shorter than expected. We thought he would be around +1600 to win, so he’s not a value pick, but he has to be included in golf picks.

  • Pick: Patrick Cantlay +900

Young Nearing First Win

Cameron Young is one of the better young golfers on tour and the 25-year-old should break through in 2023.

Young has been producing excellent results on a consistent basis, including finishing second in the 2022 Open Championship and T3 in the 2022 PGA Championship.

He has the same mold as a Scheffler or Will Zalatoris, who had shown consistency before breaking through last year, so we believe this is the year for Young to showcase his best golfing form.

Golf odds have Young at +2000 and those odds are worth taking. He represents value at those odds and he’s another American who we wouldn’t leave out of selections.

Bettors can also back Young in Top American markets. He’s on the sixth line of betting at +1600 and that’s a juicy price. It’s essentially an insurance bet if someone like Rahm wins, so the odds are juicy and worth taking.

  • Pick: Cameron Young +2200

Theegala at Big Odds

Sahith Theegala won the QBE Shootout with Tom Hoge to close out 2022, but he’s still yet to win a solo PGA Tour tournament.

The former top amateur has enough ability to beat the biggest names in the game and winning the QBE could give him enough confidence to get it done.

He’s not on the same level as Rahm and Cantlay yet, but he’s still a work in progress and the floodgates could open.

The sportsbook has Theegala at +5000, which is outstanding odds. He’s a must-have in your American Express selections because of the golf odds alone.

  • Pick: Sahith Theegala +5000
