All eyes are on the Scottish Open as a red-hot field prepares for The Open Championship next week.
All the big names are out in force, including Masters winner Scottie Scheffler, PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas and U.S. Open winner Matthew Fitzpatrick.
The Scottish Open is the tournament to watch and golf betting markets have framed an even contest.
Scottie Too Hottie
The hottest golfer on the planet is Scottie Scheffler, who made a run at Fitzpatrick at the U.S. Open but came up just short.
He is never out of contention and he’s already having an amazing year, including a win at Augusta. It was one of five wins, so there’s no denying the American’s form approaching the Scottish Open.
Scheffler currently shares favoritism with Thomas and Jon Rahm at +1200, which is a value price for the world’s best golfer. We expect those odds to shorten as the first round approaches and we would have taken anything around +1000 for Scheffler.
The 26-year-old handles Scottish Open conditions, as he showed when finishing T2 at the U.S. Open. It was a strong closing round of -3, and although he couldn’t quite catch Fitzpatrick, it was a credible finish.
We’re loving the odds at the sportsbook and he’s the toughest to beat.
Pick: Scottie Scheffler +1200
Confidence with Schauffele
Now that he has broken through for an overdue victory, Xander Schauffele could start stringing wins together.
The 28-year-old won the Travelers Championship by two shots over J.T. Poston, who subsequently won the John Deere Classic last week. It’s a good form guide and the Tokyo Olympic gold medal winner is trending in the right direction.
“I think subconsciously, or without myself even really knowing, I was getting a little impatient,” Schauffele told PGA Tour. “And this week I was just trying to be as aware – self-aware as possible to just stay as patient as possible.
“This is a big win for me mentally. Just because I sort of had to check myself, you know what I mean? When you’ve been out here and things are going easy, you just expect to play well all the time. Sometimes it’s good to take a step back.”
He also started well in the tourney’s pro-am, so he has adapted to the conditions nicely in Europe. That is a good sign and the +2000 golf odds are worth snapping up.
Pick: Xander Schauffele +2000
Hovland Searching for Answers
The future is bright for Viktor Hovland, but he played poorly at the U.S. Open when missing the cut, so he needs to regain his confidence.
The Norwegian superstar had been producing solid efforts at the likes of the Charles Schwab Challenge and Zurich Classic, but he hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since taking out the 2021 Hero World Challenge against limited numbers.
He has the ability to turn his game around at the Scottish Open and we’re prepared to give him another chance. Hovland is a class act and we think he’ll get rewarded with a win in the next couple months.
Playing in Europe is right up his alley and the +3500 odds are enticing. Betting online markets could have him Hovland around +2500, so take the value available.
Pick: Viktor Hovland +3500
Keen on the Kiwi
New Zealand’s Ryan Fox has steadily improved his world ranking and he’s now inside the top 50 following a runner-up finish at the Irish Open.
The son of former All Black Grant Fox has one of the bigger hitters on the DP World Tour and we loved how he hasn’t gone to the LIV Tour.
He’s keen on winning the Scottish Open, making a name for himself and exiting the shadow of his famous father, so all credit to the New Zealander.
His strong finish last week showed how good he is and his final round of -8 was terrific. He made a late charge and that bodes well for a strong finish at the Scottish Open. He’s also good at starting his tournaments off with a low score, setting him up for a big result.
Bettors get +4500 for Fox, and although he’s facing the best field possible, he’s good enough to make a charge for the win.
Pick: Ryan Fox +4500
