Some of the best players in the world feature on the LIV Tour this week in Chicago, including Australia’s Cameron Smith, Dustin Johnson and Talor Gooch.
Boasting a better field than the PGA Tour’s Fortinet Championship, the LIV Tour is growing in popularity and there is good money to be made with golf betting markets.
Smith to Bring Excitement
It’s only a matter of time before Smith wins on the LIV Tour and the major winner was close in his first attempt in Boston.
The 29-year-old has copped plenty of flak for making the switch from the PGA Tour, but he’s exactly the type of golfer this new tour needs. He’s young, exciting and free-spirited, so the crowds take to him.
The winner of the 2022 Open Championship and The Players is at the top of his game and we liked what we saw in his last event. It’s a good sign ahead of Chicago and Greg Norman related his signing to what Kerry Packer did with cricket.
“Cam knows about it, but he’s probably a little too young to understand what Kerry Packer did in cricket,” Norman told The Daily Mail. “He did what he did for the players, creating teams and night cricket … look where it’s evolved to from there with the IPL. The value of those teams in India is incredible. That’s the new value we bring.”
For those unfamiliar with cricket, Packer started new leagues around the world where players could make big day pays. It changed the game for the better and now Smith is helping to spearhead the charge in the golfing world.
His golf odds of +500 are worth snapping up as he could shorten to outright favoritism,
Pick: Cameron Smith (+500)
Back-to-back for Johnson
Former world No. 1 Dustin Johnson seeks consecutive LIV Tour wins and he’s a must-have in selections.
The American holed an insane putt to win in a playoff in Boston and that momentum could be enough to see him win again.
At 38, Johnson is content with not playing on the PGA Tour ever again, and given the money he’s winning, who could blame him?
He’s another player who loves the more relaxed atmosphere and the apparent “washed up” golfer, who won the 2020 Masters, is looking for more success.
Bettors get +450 for the current favorite and we wouldn’t leave him out of our golf picks.
Pick: Dustin Johnson (+450)
Varner to Lead
We love first-round leader markets and we’re locking in Harold Varner III to get off to a fast start.
Varner wasn’t able to win on the PGA Tour before leaving, which made it a logical and smart business decision. However, we think he’ll win on the LIV Tour and the smaller field helps his chances.
He still needs to beat some of the best in the world, but with money no longer an issue, it could free him up to play his best.
If he plays well in a tournament, he usually gets off to a fast start. Betting online markets have him at +2800 to lead after the first round and those odds are too juicy to pass up.
Pick: Harold Varner III First-Round Leader (+2800)
