The Players Championship Golf Betting Rankings

Webb Simpson (-120) vs Viktor Hovland (Ev)

Webb Simpson won The Players in 2018 and he has the significant experience edge over Viktor Hovland.

We respect the ability of Hovland, who is having a great season. He finished second at the WGC Workday Championship behind Collin Morikawa and he recorded a top-five finish at the Genesis Open.

His recent performance at the Arnold Palmer Invitational is a concern. He was 15 shots back of Bryson DeChambeau and Sawgrass isn’t a course for the inexperienced.

Webb Simpson hasn’t played since recording a top-10 at the WGC Workday and he also finished fourth in the Tournament of Champions earlier in the year in Hawaii.

Simpson currently sits 10th in the world and that is often forgotten. He is a truly classy player that demands respect.

Having experience winning The Players Championship can’t be understated. Simpson played extremely well to win in 2018 and he’s good enough to repeat the dose this week.

Pick: Webb Simpson -120

Bryson DeChambeau (+105) vs Rory McIlroy (-125)

Sawgrass isn’t a course that Bryson DeChambeau can attack as much as other PGA Tour courses. Most bettors would have expected to see Bryson as favorite in golf betting markets, but McIlroy is better suited this week.

Rory McIlroy has been frustrating to watch for golf bettors this season. He is getting close to scoring an overdue win, but putting and poor shot selection continues to hold him back.

DeChambeau comes off a win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and his confidence will be sky high. However, TPC Sawgrass is a course that brings players back down to earth rather quickly.

McIlroy has a more steady game and given he’s the defending champion, expect a much better showing this week.

Pick: Rory McIlroy -125

Paul Casey (-125) vs Jason Day (+105)

Australian Jason Day is getting close to being back to his best and we’re expecting big things this week.

He has struggled with injury since winning The Players Championship in 2016, but he has still won two PGA Tour events since that time.

His most recent came in 2018, but Day is good enough to beat Paul Casey over the course of four rounds. Casey has been playing well this season with multiple top-10 finishes, but Jason Day represents better value in golf markets.

Getting plus money for a noted big tournament player like Jason Day is good shopping.

Pick: Jason Day +105

Rickie Fowler (-115) vs Lee Westwood (-105)

It’s not easy to back Rickie Fowler given his current form, but just like Jordan Spieth, he’s due an improved performance.

The Californian Kid is going through some tough times on the course. It wasn’t expected from a player of his quality, but a good showing at The Players can turn it all around.

He comes up against Lee Westwood this week, who narrowly missed at the Arnold Palmer. Westwood rarely plays that well two weeks running, so we see value with Fowler in this situation.

It will require bettors to muscle up and take -115 for Fowler, but he deserves a chance.

Pick: Rickie Fowler -115

Jordan Spieth (+140) vs Tony Finau (-160)

Our final Players Championship matchup is between Jordan Spieth and Tony Finau, two players desperate for a win.

Tony Finau continues to play well without winning and it must be growing tiresome for the sweet-swinging American. Finau has now recorded 37 top-10 finishes since recording his last win, which is an insane statistic. The next most is 16, so he has a big advantage over the field in that respect.

Jordan Spieth went through some tough times, but his play over the last few weeks has been impressive. He looks to have his confidence back, especially on the greens.

There is value with Spieth this week and Sawgrass should suit his eye. He is one of the best green readers on the Tour, which will be an asset this week.

Bettors get value golf odds for Spieth at our online sportsbook and although we respect Finau’s ability to pump out top-10 finishes, the frustration might catch up to him sooner rather than later.

Pick: Jordan Spieth +140
