PGA Wells Fargo Matchup Betting Picks

Justin Thomas Lead Choice for this Week

The PGA Tour heads to Quail Hollow for the Wells Fargo Championship this week and there are some great matchups.

A feature pairing is Justin Thomas vs Jon Ramn, which pits two of the best golfers on the planet against each other.

There is a great selection of online betting matchups available, including Bryson DeChambeau vs Rahm, Xander Schauffele vs Viktor Hovland, and Corey Connors vs Patrick Reed.

All matchups are for the 72-hole tournament, so bettors get good value for their buck.

Justin Thomas vs Jon Rahm

We are surprised to see Thomas as the underdog in this matchup as his form has been solid.

He won The Players by a shot over Lee Westwood in mid-March before finishing T21 at The Masters and T13 last week at the Valspar Championship.

There is nothing wrong with that form, and the 28-year-old should enjoy playing at Quail Hollow.

Jon Rahm has also been playing well, but he hasn’t won a tournament this season. The Spaniard finished seventh at the Zurich Classic, which followed a T5 finish at The Masters.

He is one of the most consistent golfers on tour, but his lack of winning performances is a concern. Thomas knows how to win and we can’t justify Rahm as a -130 favorite.

Thomas is one of the best ball strikers on tour and if he can get his putter going, he’ll be dangerous in every tournament he plays.

“My good shots are really, really good right now and the consistency is there,” Thomas told Golf.com. “I just need to see a couple putts fall.”

We like the +110 for Thomas and he should give bettors a good sight.

Jon Rahm vs Bryson DeChambeau

We feature Jon Rahm again, so we’re hoping he doesn’t find his best game this week.

He’s up against a player who could dominate Quail Hollow and put the field to bed. Bryson DeChambeau is our pick to win the Wells Fargo Championship, so it’s only natural to back him in the matchups.

The big-hitting American could get back to his best form after a few weeks off. He needed to rest and recuperate after a torrid schedule, which included many media commitments.

With a renewed focus, DeChambeau could go on a winning run. He’s good enough, and long enough, to overpower this golf course. He only needs his putter to get back to where it used to be.

Rahm could destroy two of our picks, but we think he’ll need a week or two to find his best form after becoming a father. His sleeping patterns will be all out of whack, so take Bryson, who is only focused on golf.

We’re getting another golf at value odds against Rahm.

  • Pick: Bryson DeChambeau +125

Xander Schauffele vs Viktor Hovland

Viktor Hovland comes off a third placing at the Valspar Championship, but we’re backing against the Norwegian.

Golf betting lines have Xander Schauffele as the slight favorite and we’re in agreement. Schauffele is getting close to scoring his first PGA Tour win since 2019 and it could come at Wells Fargo.

All four of his Tour wins have come by one stroke, so he doesn’t put the field away. However, he’s a battler who will grind till the very end.

Hovland has a tendency to play well one week and not the next. He finished second in the WGC-Mexico Championship before finishing T49 at the Arnold Palmer and then missing the cut at The Players.

After solid performances at The Masters and last week, he’s due a poor showing.

Xander deserves some success and we’re confident he’ll get the better of Hovland in this matchup.

  • Pick: Xander Schauffele -120

Corey Conners vs Patrick Reed

Corey Conners is in a rich vein of form after finishing T8 at The Masters, T4 at the RBC Heritage and T21 at the Valspar Championship.

There is little doubt the Canadian is playing career-best golf, but beating Patrick Reed is another challenge in itself.

Reed comes off a missed cut and he will be hellbent on producing a much-improved performance. It was his third missed cut of the year, so there is some work to be done.

However, he also has a win in the Farmers Insurance Open and a top-10 showing at The Masters.

It’s hard to keep someone as confident as Reed down, so bettors should expect the American to bounce back in fine style.

We are respecting the ability of Conners, who is playing lovely golf, but Reed is a top-10 golfer and that goes above what Conners has achieved in his career.

  • Pick: Patrick Reed -120
