Racing returns to Saratoga Thursday afternoon, though perhaps the highlight of the first few programs in Saturday’s Diana Stakes. It’s a Grade I event on the turf at 1 1/8 miles. a small but exciting field of six ladies (4-year-olds and older) chasing a purse of $500,000.
Of the half-dozen entrants. Chad Brown trains four. His Bleecker Street is unbeaten in five 2022 races (earnings of $774,700) and the 6-5 early choice to add another to a perfect (7-for-7) record in her career,
Horse racing odds are available and bettors are excited for racing to return to the Spa.
Unbeaten Filly Leads Pack
Bleecker Street had a modest start to her career, wins in allowance company at Meadowlands and Tampa Bay Downs,, However, she’s emerged as a star.
The daughter of Quality Road won the Grade I Endeavour (Tampa Bay) before adding the Hillsborough (Tampa Bay) and Modesty (Churchill) to her record. Those were before a signature win came last out in the Grade I New York Stakes at Belmont.
She held off a tidy field, and Brown has been impressed with her improvement. Irad Ortiz Jr. rides from post position No. 3.
The sportsbook has Bleecker Street the choice to win as she looks to extend her unbeaten run to eight races.
Mate Was Expensive Purchase
Rougir was purchased by Peter Brant and Coolmore for $3.3 million, making her a valuable broodmare when her racing career is all said and done.
The daughter of Territories ran fifth in the New York Stakes behind stablemate Bleecker Street, though she’s more than qualified to turn the tables in the Diana Stakes.
The former French Grade I winner has class on her side and Brown is happy about receiving the high-graded runners from France.
“I’m the lucky recipient of some nice fillies (Brant) bought over there in Europe,” Brown said. “Me and my team are very grateful for all the horses Mr. Brant sends us. It looks like we’re off to a great season. This is his 10th graded win already this season. He’s having a great year and deservedly so. He’s done the right thing by his horses (this) winter resting them.”
Horse racing betting markets have Rougir (Flavien Prat, post No. 4) among the choices in market and she could test her stablemate. Brown also send outs Technical Analysis (Jose Ortiz, post 1) and In Italian (Joel Rosario post 6), so he has a mortgage on the Diana Stakes.
Creative Flair Getting Warmer
Creative Flair hasn’t raced since winning the Balanchine Stakes at Dubai’s Meydan Racecourse in April, but the Charlie Appleby-trained filly has ability and could win off the layoff.
The daughter of Dubawi has experience over the surface third in the Saratoga Oaks behind Con Lima. Expect that form to hold against this level of opposition, her two subsequent runs having been excellent.
The European filly could test the betting online favorites and win the Diana Stakes at a square price, so she’s worth including on the exotic-wager ticket. From post No. 2, Creative Flair has Jamie Spencer flying in for the assignment
“We just went for a jog to stretch their legs and show them a bit of daylight after being in quarantine. Everybody was happy. They are horses that will suit their races. Creative Flair was here last year, so she knows America,” stable representative Sophie Chretien said.
It could pay to watch any late betting moves with Creative Flair, who dons the famous blue colors of Godolphin.
The Diana Stakes field is rounded out by Dalika (Ricardo Santana Jr., post 5). Race 8 of 11, the Diana has a scheduled post time of 5:03 p.m. ET.
