Journalism has wrestled favoritism away from Sovereignty, and it could be another two-horse war down the stretch.

1. Journalism (+175)

There has been a lot of betting movement with Belmont Stakes current odds, which now have Journalism trading as the +175 favorite despite opening on the second line of betting.

His win in the Preakness Stakes was an incredible performance. He had no right to win the second leg of the Triple Crown after getting squeezed for room around the home turn, but he showed great courage to score a convincing win.

The 3-year-old colt will need to turn the tables on Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty, but we’re happy to put a line through that line. He still finished second on a wet track, and he didn’t handle the conditions as well as the winner.

Journalism showed his true ability last start, and I believe he deserves the final leg of the series. Take his horse racing odds before more money comes for him throughout the week.

2. Sovereignty (+200)

I might have Journalism over Sovereignty, but there is no way I’m leaving the Kentucky Derby winner out of my horse racing predictions.

He was simply brilliant when holding off Journalism at Churchill Downs, and although it’s hard to know if the wet conditions were the primary reason why he won, I’m prepared to take the risk.

Based on what I’ve seen throughout the Triple Crown, Sovereignty and Journalism are the best 3-year-old thoroughbreds in North America, and they are worth backing with exacta bets for the Belmont Stakes.

Trainer Bill Mott believes it could be a duel between the two, according to the latest horse racing news.

“Every race he has run, he has shown up,” Mott said. “I think everyone would be looking forward to (the Belmont). These are two very good horses.”

3. Baeza (+425)

As Belmont Stakes betting markets suggest, don’t forget about Baeza. The son of McKinzie ran third in the Kentucky Derby before skipping the Preakness Stakes.

I like the way he rallied late in the Derby in sloppy conditions, and that followed a second placing in the Santa Anita Derby behind Journalism, so the form lines stack up nicely for the runner on the third line.

My Belmont Stakes picks are happy to include Baeza at +425. He needs to improve to beat the favorites, but if there’s going to be a minor upset, it’ll likely come from him.
