Breeders’ Cup Classic: Air of Greatness Surrounds Flightline

Undefeated Superstar Faces Seven in What Could be His Final Race

The Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday is the last of 14 championship races over two days, but will it be a coronation for the undefeated Flightline? He is the 3-5 morning-line favorite in the horse racing odds to make it 6-for-6. Seven others line up to take their shot at the 4-year-old son of Tapit, who could be retired to stud after competing against the toughest field he’s faced.

Let’s check the latest Horse Racing odds, stats, injury reports, and Horse Racing lines for the Breeders’ Cup Classic. We’ve plenty of Horse Racing betting odds for you to consider.

Flightline Several Steps Ahead of Competition

John Sadler knew early that Flightline was the best horse he’s ever trained. “He’s an exceptional horse,” Sadler said. “He’s a one-of-a-kind horse. Before he ever ran in a race, it clicked in my mind he was the best I’ve ever had.”

Flightline could secure a cozy spot in history provided he wins the Classic. He won his races by a combined 62¾ lengths after romping in the Pacific Classic by 19¼ in September. Sadler won the 2018 Classic with Accelerate.

Life Is Good, Epicenter and Taiba are capable of taking down Flightline on their best days, but that could also require an off day for the superstar. All are conditioned by Hall of Fame trainers. Life Is Good has won three straight and is 9-for-11 lifetime, but the 1¼-mile Classic distance could prove to be his undoing. Epicenter (6-for-10) has a lock on an Eclipse Award with a convincing victory in the Travers, and second-place finishes in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. Taiba (3-for-5) continues to develop after a solid score in the Pennsylvania Derby

How The Breeders’ Cup Classic Could Unfold

Life Is Good should make the lead with Flightline among those in close attendance. Olympiad and Hot Rod Charlie should also show speed leaving the gate. Smith will be forced to send Taiba a bit from the rail. Epicenter, Happy Saver and Rich Strike should bring up the rear. Flightline makes his winning move on the far turn, leaving Life Is Good and the others behind. Taiba and Epicenter try to go with Flightline, but will not be able to keep up. That leaves Happy Saver and Rich Strike to pick up the pieces in the stretch without threatening Flightline.

The Play

If Flightline is 1-2 or higher at the racebook at post time, he would be worth a win bet. Playing heavy favorites to win usually doesn’t work out in the long run, but it’s hard to imagine Flightline going down. He is also a must-use in horizontals (daily double, Pick 3, etc.) when betting online, so astute selections leading up to the Classic could enhance his odds. As for the Classic?

  • 4 to win
  • 4 with 3,8 exactas
  • 4 with 3,8 with 3,8 trifectas
