The fillies and mares take center stage in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes at Santa Anita on Memorial Day.
Big online bets have come for Charmaine’s Mia, which has been steady in the betting throughout the week. She is holding off Keeper ofthe Stars for favoritism, which has firmed with the online racebook.
A field of seven contests the $300,000 event and it should be a thrilling finish.
When: Monday, May 31, 8:24 p.m, ET.
Where: Santa Anita Park
Distance: 1⅛ miles
Conditions: 3YO+ fillies and mares
Gamely Stakes Top Pick – Charmaine’s Mia
Trainer: Philip D’Amato
Jockey: Flavien Prat
The five-year-old mare has won three consecutive races and we’re not surprised she’s the Gamely Stakes favorite.
She won the Grade 3 Las Cienegas Stakes before taking out the Grade 2 Buena Vista and Grade 2 Royal Heroine Stakes. All three wins came at Santa Anita, so she loves the racing surface.
Charmaines Mia turning into a nice horse up to 1 mile. Wouldnt mind seeing her go back East in next few starts. @santaanitapark

It capped off some moderate form from the daughter of The Factor. She hadn’t won since breaking her maiden grades at Woodbine in 2018, so her return to form has been quite incredible.
She now looks to add a Grade 1 to her record and she’s capable of improving enough to win. It’s not the strongest Gamely Stakes field we’ve ever seen, so we’re happy to take the +120 odds.
Charmaine’s Mia has yet to race further than a mile, but trainer Philip D’Amato isn’t too worried.
“It’s an issue until she does it,” D’Amato told DRF.com. “If I didn’t think she’d do it, we’d go to Plan B.
“She’s a much more relaxed filly than she was when she won that turf sprint. She’s relaxed more and more, from race to race. Flavien says she’s much more push-button now. I think a mile and an eighth is in her scope.”
Bettors should have Charmaine’s Mia on the ticket for the 2021 Gamely Stakes.
Pick: Charmaine’s Mia +120
Gamely Stakes Next Best – Keeper ofthe Stars
Trainer: Jonathan Wong
Jockey: Abel Cedillo
Money has come for Keeper ofthe Stars after opening at +400. The five-year-old has mixed her recent form, but she was impressive winning two starts back at Golden Gate.
She followed the win with a second-place finish in the Grade 3 San Francisco Mile, which was a nice hit out before tackling the feature race.
Keeper ofthe Stars isn’t running as well as she was this time last season. The 2020 Gamely Stakes winner came into that race with a Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes win under her belt, so her form has dropped off.

However, she is classy at best and she has eight career wins to her name, so she must be respected.
I could pay to follow betting moves. If she closes in on Charmaine’s Mia with bookmakers, she could be put on top.
Pick: Keeper ofthe Stars +300
Gamely Stakes Best Roughie – Going to Vegas
Trainer: Richard Baltas
Jockey: Umberto Rispoli
The four-year-old filly was too good for them in the Grade 3 Santa Ana Stakes on this track last start. It was a strong win where she defeated race rival Red Lark.
It capped off solid form, which included second placings in the Grade 1 American Oaks and Red Carpet Stakes. There is nothing wrong with that form and she has been around the top-end throughout her career.
The +900 odds for a talented filly is good shopping and she must be included in horse racing bets for the Gamely Stakes.
