Celebrity Drama ✨
The online reaction to this moment is kind of (no, completely) unhinged.
Well, the last thing I expected to see in celebrity news was a potential feud brewing between Nicole Kidman and Salma Hayek, but here we are. At Paris Fashion Week, the two stars had what looked like anything but a friendly interaction and the internet is completely losing their minds over it.
The Evidence
In a viral clip making the rounds, Kidman and Hayek stood in front of photographers alongside Katy Perry when things got awkward. Hayek appeared to try and steer Kidman—who had her back to the cameras—by placing a hand on her side. A photographer can be heard saying, “Ladies, please,” before requesting that the two pose together.
Instead of obliging, Kidman kissed Perry goodbye and abruptly walked away. As she did, Kidman and Hayek seemed to exchange some tense words. A voice, likely Kidman’s, is heard saying, “You don’t need it,” to which Hayek responded, “I do.” And this is where the celebrity rumors of a beef between them started…

The online reaction to this moment is kind of (no, completely) unhinged. Fans are tearing Kidman apart, calling her everything from rude to jealous to attacking her appearance, while others are saying that Hayek should have kept her hands to herself. But can we take a step back and have some empathy here? Nicole Kidman just lost her mother last month. Grief can make getting out of bed a challenge, let alone attending Paris Fashion Week with cameras flashing nonstop.

Don’t Panic
Don’t get me wrong—I love Salma Hayek, and Salma Hayek movies are some of my favorites (probably even more so than Nicole Kidman movies and TV shows), so I don’t think she did anything wrong. But if I lost friends every time I asked someone to take their hand off me because I was feeling overstimulated, I’d have a total of zero friends. I can’t even imagine dealing with that pressure in a high-stakes, high-fashion environment. Kidman merely expressed a boundary, and that’s totally fine.
oh that “don’t touch me” from Nicole to Salma at a brand show owned by her husband, that Balenciaga contract is in danger I fear 🫣 pic.twitter.com/zqUa6oHfdA

Yes, there’s an expectation of tolerance and decorum at events like these, but honestly, why? No industry or environment should force someone to stay in a situation they’re uncomfortable with. And sure, I know Salma Hayek’s husband, François-Henri Pinault, runs Kering, which owns Balenciaga, but if they were to fire Kidman over this, it would be completely uncalled for. Let’s cut these ladies some slack and hope that they resolved this behind closed doors already.
