The Roys Will Be Missed

I can’t wait to see what they [HBO] have in store for us in 2024…

In the latest entertainment news, the nominations for the Golden Globes have been announced, and Succession, the hit HBO series, is ending its impressive run with a final hurrah during awards season.

After sweeping the 2023 Primetime Awards with a whopping 27 nominations, the show has now garnered nine Golden Globe nominations, setting a new record for the most nominations received by a television show.

If you haven’t watched the series, I strongly urge you to do so. It’s clever, intense, and humorous – a rare combination in the world of television. At the heart of the show are the Roys, a powerful family who owns Waystar RoyCo – a massive corporation in the media and entertainment industry. As they navigate through turmoil surrounding the health of their father, the family is also embroiled in a struggle for control of their company.

The beloved satirical comedy-drama received nominations in every eligible category, including a notable nomination for Best Drama Series.

Among the Succession cast, the male categories were especially dominant, with three nominations each for Best Actor, including Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, and Matthew Macfadyen, Alexander Skarsgård, and Alan Ruck being nominated for Best Supporting Actor on TV.

It wasn’t just the men who received the ever-coveted Globes nominations. Sarah Snook was also recognized for her role in a drama series, earning a nomination for Best Actress while J. Smith-Cameron also received recognition for her supporting role and was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

HBO has impressed with their nominations this year, leading the pack with a whopping 14 nods this year. Another standout series from the network, The Last of Us, was also recognized for its exceptional storytelling and performances, with nominations for Best TV Drama as well as Best Actor and Best Actress for Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, respectively. If you haven’t watched it yet be sure to add it to your list of must-see shows. And with HBO’s track record, I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us in 2024!
